"Here’s a wild fact this morning, Ford managed to not only sell a record number of Ford Maverick small trucks, it actually outsold the perennial small/medium truck leader Toyota Tacoma. Not only did it outsell Tacoma, if you just look at Maverick Hybrids, the Maverick Hybrid outsold all Toyota Tacomas. Is this a weird issue of timing or a sign that Maverick Hybrids are the future? The answer is: Yes."

I think some of that might have to do with Tacoma supply issues. Not taking anything away from the success of the Maverick of course.

There aren’t any new Tacomas at dealers so its a meaningless stat. They have been delayed from Dec deliver until March.

So when Ford can't make enough Mavericks, many on this forum say they are evil. But Toyota gets a pass when they can't make enough?

Its not can't make enough it's can’t make any. It’s a totally new model and it won’t hit dealers until this month. Just got the epa approval a couple weeks ago.How many Rangers have been shipped?

The story is about sales not production. Toyota has known for over a year they were going to have a model change. Good planning would have built up enough inventory they could continue to sell through the transition to a new model.

I don't think this is a fair comparison to be honest.
Toyota can't fullfill orders, people know that. If buyers are going to have to 'order and wait' , it makes sense holding out for the 24 Taco rather than buying a 23.

This has to be about the dumbest thread I’ve seen in years, a guy saying how screwed up Toyota planning and production is that ordered a 2022 hybrid which he never got and waiting at least a year and a half for a Maverick hybrid. . Again, how is the Ranger doing?

Well, I think your post is the dumbest ever. Comparing production of a vehicle that that has been made for 30 years to a 1st year vehicle starting production during the aftermath of COVID.

For 19 years in a row, the Tacoma has been the best selling small truck.

Now, three months in a row and for the whole first quarter, the Maverick has outsold the Tacoma.

2024 First Quarter Sales
Tacoma 21,558
Maverick 39,061

Tacoma may catch up by the end of the year. But at least the Maverick is giving it a run for the money.

Very pricey trucks except the lower trims which offer little in amenities. Still going to be terrible gas mileage when compared to the Maverick EB, let alone the Hybrid which blows its doors off.

Compared to the Maverick it rides like a lumber wagon and handles like one too.

Tacos make their bread playing in the dirt. If off road ain't your thang, what's the point of buying one?
