And also the desire for a higher riding body on the frame. That's one reason why I currently have a Nissan Frontier...it's the last of the low-riding body styles from the early 2000s.
The problem on the Frontier are two fold. It's still has a higher entrance then the Maverick but also less ground clearance. Actually 3 if not 4 it with body on frame it's most likely not as safe or forgiving than a unibody but still has body roll on corners. Besides if it's what I remember the back seats are uncomfortable and it's extremely more difficult to get out of the back seat. I'm not dissing it but there is a lot more difference between the two. Another is to get the torque and horsepower again if my memory is correct you have to be around 5000 rpms. Two distinctly different vehicles. Of course if it 4x4 it has a 2 speed transfer case and /or low range where the Maverick pales in that comparison.

No lifts for me, I need ease of entrance and exiting along with loading and access to the bed. I still like adequate ground clearance for going out back and to go through deep snow.

Might be due to having the steering wheel as brace to help exiting & entering.
Tom,
I just went out to the truck and checked.
Nope. Getting in and out of the truck, I don't touch the steering wheel.
Getting into my truck no steering wheel used. My left hand is on the door.

Getting out of my truck I use the door frame not my steering wheel.

Ease of entry and exit was a very high reason for selecting the Maverick, along with performance and appearance!!
Not to say I wouldn't like to see the 2.7L Ecoboost available. I would have paid extra for that option.
2.7 EB would be a rocket in the Maverick!! I had the 2.7 EB in the 2015 Super Cab F-150 4X4 I had and it ran a 14.53@93 mph bone stock in the 1/4 mile. The 2.7 EB IMO is a highly under rated engine.

I've never owned one but I still have to agree with you. This is about the same and similar thing my BIL said. He said it was fast Surprisingly it got great mileage if he didn't push it as well about 25/26 highway. He has a 3.5 liter hybrid now and the 2.7 was better all around performance and mileage.

Good grief, Glenn. You'll do anything to get yourself on film. LOL.

The 2nd gen and up Colorado's started with the higher-riding body, and Toyota killed off the 5-lug/non-prerunner Tacoma a couple years back.

I had a 2001 F-250 with a 4" lift and 34s. Parked next to a stock Alumiduty and its bed rails were still higher than mine. The step-in height of my F-250 was 33" (literally like throwing a foot onto the top of a desk or table and climbing up), but I installed factory running boards that dropped it to 22".

Suffice it to say, I got rid of the thing once I sold off the race trailer. Having to lift things to damn near chest height in order to throw it into the nearly-dock-height bed was a pain in the back, as was having to climb in and out 20 times a day.
I"m sure you're not alone with these experiences.

Had the Maverick been around when I was shopping for the Frontier...then there probably wouldn't be one in the driveway. But it was the best option for me at the time. Now I'm just waiting for the '25+ Mavericks to start hitting the secondhand market.

Back seat isn't an issue for me since it's virtually never used. Yes you got to rev the NA engine to get some power, but it isn't afraid to downshift and hold it, unlike a 3rd gen Tacoma with the 3.5 that wants to be in top gear at 35mph and not downshift even with my foot in the carpet.

Not sure of your age group, but a younger version of me would always wait for the second-hand market. Shows focus and discipline in decision making. I no longer have that ability or time. I commend you.

No you are not alone. It's the body on frame design you are needing to climb entering and falling exiting do to the extra height needed for the frame, compared to a unitized body construction. The same scenario extends to loading or entering the bed. Both have its cons and pros the biggest is not just the ease to enter or exit but the safety factor on a unitized body. The reason is the unitized body is designed to take or fold taking the blunt of the impact or cushion the blow to the occupants.

The con because of its design it also has a higher possibility of being totaled by the insurance company comparing it to a body on frame design.
For me almost as bad is climbing in or out of something like a Honda Civic

I will have to take your post on that, I have no experience with a Honda Civic. To be frank I have a really hard time accessing cars, most sit to low, making it extremely difficult to get in or out. They also lack the ground clearance I need.

Good luck on that. Hope it works out for you. I don't have a crystal ball to see in the future. That being said if it doesn't change used Maverick's are holding their resale value. Most vehicles lose 30% the first year, that's not been the case with the Maverick's that I've seen. So price out new as well. Also if you are not paying cash look to see if any difference in interest rates. If less interest rates, longer payment plans, and full new warranty it all should be weighed.

I read that they are offering some pretty good deals on leftover 25's you might want to check this video out

Good luck on that used 25 but also with the Frontier it's still a nice truck.

I am 69 years old, had a 2002 Ford F150 when I was 65, no issue with entry and exit.

You're definitely onto something. I solicited dealers who had NOS back in January of the exact configuration I am looking for (XL hybrid AWD 4k tow). I was looking at about $33k OTD, which I guess is pretty good for that Maverick that stickers at $34k.

The '23 lease returns are hitting the used market. Hybrid examples with 30-40k miles are around $25k retail. Add on another 10% or so for AWD and 4k tow (since those just came out in '25 for the hybrid) brings it to $27.5k. Add on another 12% for TTL and it'd be $31k OTD.

What I'd be more interested in is a high-mileage example. Since I won't drive the car much and don't mind spinning some wrenches, I could take something toward the end of it's regular service life.

But I'm in no hurry. I'd like to keep the Frontier for another 2-3 years. New cars will always be around, so if the best option at that time is to buy new, that's what I'll get, especially if the cost delta between new and 40k-mile used is $2k.
