Thanks for reassuring me that my micro-machine can withstand a rear end collision! I hope everyone involved is okay.

This is the difference between a car that offers good value, like the maverick, and a car that's cheap, like the Mitsubishi. The maverick is affordable, but engineered extremely well as evidenced by it's high ranking safety and reliability rankings. Just want to point this out, the maverick is certainly a good value, but it isn't built cheaply.

Is/was that a Mirage? I considered one before we opted for ordering a Maverick.

The car is aptly named. You think its a car from a distance but when you get closer you realize it was all an illusion.

Just a few years ago they were selling for $12,000 new I think. Now it's $18,000 or better.
Very similar in approach to something like a tercel or Rio. It'll be reliable, but so miserable in every other sense that you'll be praying for it to break just to justify getting rid of it. Source: I own a 2009 Rio.

She looks like she’s cute

Can you report on that detail plz?
She was cute in the dark from 30 feet away with airbag dust flying. 😂

Yep, it’s a Mirage.

$17,600 starting MSRP, just under $18k. May or may not find a dealer motivated to sell it for less, but ouch is it not worth that.

Most Mitsubishi vehicles crumple like origami. - As do many Hyundai, was hit by a girl in a Tiburon, looked similar, yet my Outback only needed a new bumper cover & right side muffler.

In other words a toaster. You buy a Rio, or a Mirage for the same reason you buy a toaster. Because it's an appliance.

Nice looking car for the price and will sacrifice itself to protect its owner. And looks totaled.
Maverick is likely totaled but still drove away I guess.
I hope Ford makes a better unibody design so that a crumpled bummer doesn’t total the truck.

Dang. No air bags deployed for you? Hope that repair will be quick and painless.
airbags shouldn’t deploy on a rearender….airbag deployments total many vehicles.

I don't think you can lump all Mitsubishi's into the same category. My wife's 2023 Outlander PHEV has 11 air bags and five star crash safety ratings and a very long list of tech safety features. But then again it did not cost under 20K. Came with a 5 year 60K bumper to bumper warranty and 10 year 100,000 mile on the drive train and Lithium ION battery. My dad used to always say you get what you pay for.

We had an Outlander PHEV in our fleet until someone drove over some equipment at a job site and caused irreparable damage to total it. I was seriously impressed with the build quality, ride comfort and electric only range the few times I got to use it.
