AC is the real gas mileage killer. Yesterday was 95 degrees here in Jersey and I had to use it. My mileage went from 42 to 38. And that was just a short 45 mile trip. I was doing about 70-75 mph on the highway and a little bit of driving around town. Then this morning on my 10 mile commute to work the computer red 45 mpg. It cooled off so I had windows down and no AC.
Thanks, l will also check how much A/C impacts the mileage.

I wonder what the price a gallon of fuel would have to be that would make the drivers in CA slow down a little?
Don’t know about CA but here in Dallas tollways, 75 mph is normal with speed limit being 70.

Some have reported they run fan with fresh air and open the rear window to help cool and not run AC as much and also at a higher setting.

Thank you everyone for your replies and inputs. Overall l am very happy with my Lariat and definitely the mileage that I am getting is nothing to sneeze at with my kind of high speed highway driving, it was just that l was randomly seeing many folks posting high mileage they are getting so was wondering.

But from your replies it is clear that there is nothing to worry about. I am driving my truck same way as l used to drive my Civic earlier or drive my MDX now, that is to say w/o any efforts to get better mileage so it’s impressive.

And sometimes just to have more fun l change to Sport mode and it’s character changes. In MDX these modes appear more gimmick and the most noticeable change is in steering feel it gets heavier in sport mode but not much difference in acceleration. But Maverick becomes a different beast in sport mode and such a hoot to drive!!!

Manually calculate MPG, and after 4,000 miles each tank has been 44 to 46 mpg...I tend to keep pace with local traffic. Mostly suburban streets.

Last weeks was 41.2 mpg and I’d contribute that to more use of A/C. My first tank leaving Chapman Ford and drove 788 miles and got 49.2 mpg…I’d defiantly contribute that to cooler weather and use of cruise control at 60 mph. My understanding is that ECO option in the transmission simply activates battery generation more frequently...and my MPG sees little to no help from ECO mode. Long freeways of several 100 miles do have benefits of ECO verses Normal mode. Sport mode probably significantly reduces MPG.

It’s been proven several times that bed covers (tonneaus covers) have little to do with gas savings, rolling down windows has also been proven most ineffective in saving MPG, but on this tread…larger and heavier tires and wheels have showed a significant negative affect on MPG…like 3 to 5 mpg.

Also options and accessories in a Lariat may add weight that affects MPG.

It makes a huge impact, living here in AZ, I've had the AC on now for about 3 weeks, and have seen a dip in my MPG, now I also know it depends on how cold you want the cab too

Cool, l also bought from Chapman but got it drop shipped rather than driving it myself. Overall a very happy customer and will recommend Chapman to every one.

Wife works for a major airlines so flight was FREE and Chapman picked me up at the airport and i turned pickup in to a 3 day vacation. If I buy another Ford, it will be from Chapman. No BS and they did everything to make it a smooth transaction..

Hi All, looking for some advice - l have driven my Lariat Hybrid 2400 miles in 3 months but average mileage reported on dash has hovered between 34 to 36 MPG.

My 80% drive is highway at 65 to 75 MPH.

Many members here have reported getting mileage of 40 & higher, so not sure if there’s something wrong with my truck or my driving.

Any suggestions?
There’s nothing wrong with your truck. I’ve been 80% 70-75mph since January and am about at the same mpg’s as you. This being said, when I do drive non-feeway, it is quite easy to get 40+, sometimes near 50. I also noticed an improvement with warm weather and the summer blend of gas now being used. My last 400 mile freeway drive at 72-73mph gave me near 38, even with a headwind.

Ive been driving a fusion hybrid for 3 years and I have observed this..
- average mpg is 40
-Anything over 60 mph kills your mileage.
-running my heat decreases my mpg more than running my A/C
- the hybrid tires gain you about 2 mpg
- summer mileage is always better than winter but that probably has to do with fuel mix.
-95k miles and zero things changed but oil and tires
-my Maverick is being built on June 13!

My friend, if your commuting is 80% on the highway and you purchase a hybrid, I am afraid you purchased the wrong technology!

The Hybrid technology shines on a bumper-to-bumper city commuting. The point of the hybrid is to get you up 35-40 MPH on electric power where the gas engine is less efficient. From that point, the gas engine will take over, and the "electric motor" is on for the ride. At this point, the word "HYBRID" is irreverent. It is a regular gas-powered vehicle.

I purchase the EcoBoost for this exact reason. With 80-90% of my commute on I-75, it made no sense to go for the hybrid, as attractive as it was. After just a few tweaks, I am up to 37~38 at 72~74 MPH with no effort and still trying different things. You may have to look for aftermarket add-ons to improve your gas engine's efficiency.

Thanks, l bought Hybrid because it was cheaper than Ecoboost. I am going to drive few weeks around 70 mph that will increase my commute time by 2-3 minutes, let’s see if that improves mileage.
