For those that have had their Mavericks, if you have the OEM Michelin Primacy tires, how many miles are you looking at them lasting. I would like to replace them with at tire with a little more off road tread, but want to wear these out first. Interested in your thoughts........

They were the same tires that were on our Escape. We got around 40,000 off of them before they started to approach their wear indicators. But also put a ton of highway miles on them.

That is what I was thinking. That is less than 2 years driving.

I looked them up on Michelin'web site. They come with 8.5/32" tread. Have 45k mile warranty to 2/32" recommended rotation when tread wear is different at 3-6k miles. Expected at 4k miles. I usually replace at 3-3.5/32". At 2nd oil change at 14.6k miles dealer said tread was 5.5 uniform and recommended replacing at 4/32". So about 22-23k miles expected life. Looking at generals with 11/32" or nitto's with 11-12/32" for $35-$45 each less. Have to step to 235/60/r18 on nitto's but if I remember right they are 3lbs heavier and have 104 load rating instead of 100 like michelins. Also are 0.6" larger diameter. Both those are 65k or maybe 70k wear rated. If you have r17" wheels nitto has 225/65/r17 size. Usually buy tires at discount but dealer offers free alignment ($110?) with tires. 🤷 So maybe buy dealers tires and certificates at discount with alignment savings??? Aaarrrggghhh!!!

Interesting tidbit: The Ford OEM Michelin Primacys are made to specific Ford-OEM specs. Their tread depth is 8.5mm verse the exact same non-Ford spec tire is like 11mm. This is a common ploy by OEMs to mount name brand tires on new vehciles but save $$$ as they buy in bulk...deeper tread costs more.

It took us three years to hit that mark and that was using the Escape almost exclusively. I expect the Maverick to take longer to hit 40,000.

I’ll keep that info in mind. Not crazy about the tread on these tires, but don’t want to throw them away prematurely.

Get the Michelin Defender tires (not Primacy) The Defender will last twice as long as Primacy.

These Michelin primacy are made in 225/60/R18 and the Ford OEM and Toyota OEM both meet specs for Ford according to michelin site. (Most likely identical compounds and the 8.5/32" tread pattern are same). The non OEM primacy in this size are 9/32" tread and most likely have different rubber compounds and have 55k milage warranty. The 225/60 R18 only appeared on michelins site in late 2021 before that they were only available in 235's and were In multiple different OEM versions.

The Michelin primacys are apparently made for OEM contracts as they show 30 or more OEM specs for many manufactures. The new General RT45's look good for the $ but are not available in 225/60 R18 have to go to 235/60 R18 which are 3 lbs heavier and 0.6" larger diameter with 11/32" tread. Have 75k wear and about $165 each. (714 vs 726 rev/mile. The 18" rims on lariat makes tire change difficult.

I was asking myself that same question. I'm looking for a set of All-Terrain tires for a set of wheels that I purchased. I currently have 7k miles on the OEM Michelin Primacy tires that came with my Lariat and they still look brand new 😬. I'm debating if I should hold-off for a while longer until I wear down the stock Michelin's.

It bugs me having to take off the Michelin's and then storing them while they age and aren't good anymore for possible future use. To me it feels like I'm throwing money down the drain.

If I do decide to get tires for the new wheels, I'm leaning towards purchasing the Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 or possibly the Firestone Destination AT2 in size 245/65 R17, with the Raised White Letters. The wheels that I purchased are 17X8. They've been sitting in the house for a long time still in their original boxes.

Decisions Decisions Decisions...

I had 28k miles on mine when I traded for my ‘23 and they barely looked worn. As for buying new tires and storing old ones, I have enough things to spend $$ on that I’ll wear these tires out before replacing.
