So from what I have been told the new "7-Speed" transmission used in the LOBO is just the same 8-Speed Transmission with 2nd gear skipped for quicker shift. Apparently this is what they did in the Edge ST as well.

I have tried to search and can't find anything so I wasn't sure if some of you ForScan guru's may know. Is anyone aware of the ForScan programming from the Edge ST that we can import to the PCM so we can also have this on our regular Mavericks?

The 8F35 is already skipping 2nd gear under most driving conditions. The 2-3 step is so small it can just skip straight to 3rd. The Powershift 7-speed is a dual clutch transmission. So I don't believe any amount of ForScan is going to achieve what you think you want to achieve.

Is it a dual clutch? We will have to wait and see.online edge st uses the 8f57.

Yeah, I may be wrong. I misread that. The RDU is twin clutch for the torque vectoring in LOBO mode. So not really sure what the real difference in the transmissions are if the 8F35 is already skipping 2nd also. Guess you get the cool little paddle shifters and call it a day and don't have to double shift so quick manually on the 1-2, 2-3

That was my main thought since I have the paddle shifters on mine. Would be nice to just skip 2nd gear when manually shifting since I typically just end up double tapping to skip it since it's such a short gear.

Whatever they did/do I hope for buyer's sake it's tuned better than the stock unit in the current trucks. It's a shuffling, confused mess under any kind of light throttle.

I'm subbing cause I eventually wanna do some form of shifting on mine while it's an auto. Debating between steering wheel w/ paddle shifters or wiring up an F150 shifter. Either way, if I could get the feel like the Lobo that would be awesome.

End plan though is MT swap. Talked to a few friends in the auto industry and I'll most likely need to mate up the front of the housing from an ST trans and rear housing from the RS. After that, we'll see. Idk if there's more to it yet, cause I feel as though I'll need the RDU from the RS as well.

the 8f35 shifting behavior no one in this thread likes cannot be altered with forscan but it most definitely can be fixed (and further tweaked if desired) by a reflash tuning device like an accessport.

you could even keep the stock ECU tune and only take the TCM tune if you wanted to run 87, but I think that's pretty silly.

The Cobb Accessport has the adjustment settings for Throttle Response that COMPLETELY changes the shifting behavior, especially when paired with the sport trans tuning file. It's like a night and day difference. Not sure what gears are skipped with that programming. I can't stand the throttle response without the adjustment!!!

kinda. I have it, and throttle response is different from the transmission parameters, but yes an accessport can do both.

there are older discussions here because people noticed with scan tools right away (late '21) that the 8F35 never used 2nd gear. it turns out that it only uses 2nd at very light throttle, nearly idling from 1st. why Ford bothered, I'll never know, but with an accessport tcm (either oem+ or sport) it will completely disable 2nd gear IF selected via auto mode which almost everyone would be doing.

however, If you have a 22-24 ecoboost and you install paddle shifters then you still will go 1-2-3 if you use the paddle shifters in 1st gear. (it will be much better for 0-60 and 1/4 mile to just let it shift automatically, instead of paddle shifting through 2nd.)

until we see diagrams and part numbers for the Lobo transmission we probably won't know if this transmission really has just 7 gears inside, or if it's just an 8F35 with 2nd gear permanently deleted in the TCM.

The 8F35 is based on the codeveloped GM 9spd. Ford did not see the benefit of a 9th gear and more or less removed 4th gear for reduced complexity and weight savings.

Which then placed 2/3 very close together and Ford has programmed it to effectively skip 2nd.

This is the power shift 7spd in the Lobo.

probably. I'm about 90% sure of that, yes.

but it could be several other transmissions, instead. since the lobo has the same 2.0 as any other ecoboost maverick, I think it's reasonable to think that the transmission probably is just a 8F35, but we will find out soon.

Always a chance we’re wrong but I feel strongly we are not. Only other option would be the DCT 7spd and I just can’t see it.
