Lane Keeping System Observations,

I would have to strongly disagree. I commute from Las Vegas to California daily. Drive a 25 awd/hybrid back and forth. Off acc im getting 32.9 mpg with acc im getting 32 to 31.9. My commute is on hwy roughly 86 miles.

My Maverick will hold the lane perfectly on the straight, around the bends and turns, and will even stop and go the few times I’ve hit severe.

My Maverick is a game changer. With working on call multiple shifts and hours of the day. I’ve tested and trust the ACC so much I can actually sleep for a good 45 mins of the trip.

throw a Dasani water bottle full, but opened to let the air out. Stick it in the steering wheels bottom right opening, and you have a self driving vehicle. The water in the bottle moving around with the slight movements of the wheel truck the computer into thinking you are holding the wheel, and off I go.

I have traveled several thousand miles with acc. With slight difference in gas, and have not had one single issue with the acc system.

I have a 2018 Shelby F-150 and the Maverick by far has a much improved system.

Lane keeping SUCKS on my 22.

It's like a game of ping pong. Or more appropriately, bumper bowling.
It does NOTHING until I cross over the right line or left line THEN over corrects.

It's a nightmare on zig-zag roads. I am constantly arm wrestling it on zig zag roads so off is the default. It's NOT chewing up tires. That's just silly. That implies you think one wheel is turning more than the other. That should be impossible. It may use more battery power.

The only thing it does is give me a 50/50 shot if I should fall asleep on a perfectly straight section. The "do do / do do / do do alarm after 15 seconds might wake me up.

I find it just above useless.
I had it recalibrated earlier this year.
Nothing improved.

Wife's Toyota does much better.
Meh. It's bottom of the lineup. Entry level vehicle.

On my 24 Hybrid, lane keeping is awesome. I don't see the MPG hit that others report, and having just put 1000 miles on a couple of VW SUV's (a Taos and a Tiguan), Ford's system is much, much better. The VW's wandered over the lines so often, it might as well have been off.

I test drove a 2023 Escape and I dont know what Ford had changed in lane centering system at that time but it was bouncing back forth between the lines.

That's not lane centering.

I drove it about 1/2 mile doing that. Turn around and said no thanks and said they needed to get that looked at!

That's how my Lane keeping system works if you don't help with the correction.

No, I was using lane CENTERING. I have been using lane keeping and lane centering since 2020. That is why said I dont what changes Ford had made to the system but it gone to crap or there was something wrong with that particularly vehicle

With lane centering you should be able to let go off the wheel, completely, and it will keep in the center of the lane without much change until it alerts you to put hand on the wheel. That escape went looking for the line instantly going back and forth in between lines, like a how blind person goes back forth with their cane looking for obstacles in front of them

Lane centering and lane assist are too different things. When it goes back and forth like a blind person that is lane assist. When it holds center. Guess what lane centering. What changed is you probably bought a car that doesn’t have lane centering and think that just because the symbol which is the same for both. Is the same as you used to use. That you are using the correct program.

I guess you have read all my threads. I have used lane assist and centering since 2020 i know how they both work and how to set them both. And no, they both didnt have the same symbol in the escape, however, my 26 maverick lariat that is how it is now. When I test drove the escape i set them both up because i like using the system i turned them BOTH on because I was trying test how sensitive the alert was and how long it would go before it said put your hand on the wheel.

Yep. Like below. The "steering wheel with lines" button turns lane keeping/lane centering off and on. If you disable the lane centering on the infotainment screen, then it only toggles lane keeping off and on, and the icon on the gauge cluster will not show the steering wheel between the lines.

Yep exactly. On the escape i had 3 buttons, 1 for lane centering on the end of the blinker, 1 for distance, 1 for centering

I thought you were talking crap about the bottle so I tried it on the way home from work for at 8 miles and dang the alert never came on once. It did alot more correcting than when my hands are on it but I had drank from the bottle and didnt let the air out. Not sure how you thought of it but clever. Kinda scary that it worked!
