My 2025 is the first FOB vehicle I've ever seen that lets you accidentally lock yourself out with the FOB inside. Has happened to me a few times because the doors seem to lock themselves arbitrarily. But I have luckily had my phone in my pocket and could unlock them through the app. But today I left both the fob and my phone in the car when I jumped out to move something and the door locked automatically behind me and I was locked out of the running truck. Had to call my wife to drive over with her FOB. My previous cars were unlockable when the fob was inside the car. You could lock them from inside but as soon as you open the door to get out all of the doors would unlock.
I also hate the arbitrary horn beeping that happens sometimes when you get out of the car and shut the door behind you. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for when it does that. I'm apologizing to startled bystanders all the time.

The fact that the 'passenger door was unlocked.' confirms you accidentally locked the door when you got out of the truck.

It happens easily. Especially now in cold weather gloves on.

Don't you have the keypad on door? Yeah my Maverick sometimes locks me out also, I think when I have it running and get out and close door.

Paul,
See post #19
You're inadvertently locking it yourself.
The Maverick will not auto lock while unattended, no matter how long it's parked.
Not one person has ever been able prove such an occurrence through video documentation.
It's pretty easy to do. You get out of your truck as normal, set the phone next to to the door on the drivers seat or on a small tripod sitting on the console, leave it recording. The sound of the door locking will be evident on the video.
Example of a very simple setup using $1.99 tripod.

Apparently what is locking you out is you, per post #19.

Edit: Apparently Glenn posted the same thought 14 milliseconds before I did. ;)

So as to not be completely redundant, it would be easy to document the ghost door locking if it occurred, but it may be impossible to do if the cause is the likely inadvertent lock press.

I actually found that out by testing what would happen. Makes sense that I touched the lock spot on the door handle. However when the exterior lock feature is activated, it normally locks all of the doors

The fact that the passenger doors were unlocked confirms. It has nothing to do with touching the outside door handle.
I think everybody underestimates how easy it is to actually lock the driver's door while pushing the door open.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification

I appears that the "important safety tip" is to push open the door by using the handle lower on the door rather than up near where the door lock is situated.

As far as preventing a user initiated lock with the key fob left in the vehicle, having the keyed ignition on the XL will beep at you as a reminder, unlike the "convenient" push button start which does not, making it more likely to be left accidently in the vehicle.

It's also a help in that unlike a fob that can be dropped out of a pocket, the key stays in the ignition until it needs to be removed, like God intended..

An added plus - Transponder key locks are extremely difficult to defeat, while keyless fob ignitions that are not protected can be hacked relatively easily with some inexpensive equipment.

The good news is the Mavs are low on the list for thieves, and Ford's in general are lower on the most often stolen list.

I read in the manual that you can lock/unlock the door depending on where you touch the handle. Trucks with three line impressions on top of the handle have this feature. Mine has the 3 lines.

But the keyless entry will do a honk and unlock all if fob left in cabin - if you press the Lock all button, or attempt the handle lock on exterior.

But I do prefer the beep as soon as you open the door if you left key in ignition.

Obviously everything is defeated if you push that manual lock lever.

I'd suggest while someone prone to that is trying to relearn how to open the door better - change the truck setting to unlock all doors on driver door open.

You’re the best Glen! If it wasn’t for you people here would still be trying to figure out this “Phenomenon”! Thank-you. 😉 Wow, this is getting technical, tri-pods etc.

I know this isn't really what you are asking about...

But I know this for a fact. When I go on road trips I take two keyfobs with me. One I keep on my persons and another one in my suitcase/bag as a backup. While traveling I can easily lock the second key in the car with the fist key. When we are at a hotel I keep the second key there just in case we get locked out or I lose my primary key as extra insurance.

Also if I lose my primary key while the second key in in the car I can still open the door with the phone app. Originally I thought I would need a Faraday bag for the second key to achieve this but I was surprised I did not.
