Just stumbled on several articles detailing how the Karr alarm system, installed on a lot of cars by dealers who are trying to stop thefts from their lots, actually enables theft by hackers - here's one of the articles - https://techxplore.com/news/2026-07-million-cars-anti-theft-dealers.html

There is a patch available to allegedly fix this, I just installed it on my 2026 XLT AWD 4K. No way to know if it works as I'm not acquainted with any professional thieves, but at least now there is a record of it being installed. I just hope that the dealership didn't butcher the factory wiring too terribly - I doubt they have their best techs install these things.

To do the patch there are instructions at the Karr website. Note that the system is probably still in the car even if you declined to pay for it. Guess the hardware is so cheap that it's not worth paying a tech to remove it.

I called Karr and they offered to remove it for free. I had two options.: bring it to the car dealership that installed it, or they will send a mobile tech to my house to do it for free. The appointment window is two hours and it takes around an hour to complete.. i am having mine removed on Monday

The Ford Maverick has a very low theft rate. Data from the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) lists the Ford Maverick hybrid crew cab with a relative theft frequency of just 16, which is far below the national average for pickup trucks.Risk Factors and Ownership InsightsTarget Value: Most users on Facebook agree that the Maverick is not a high-priority target for professional car thieves because its budget market value and parts demand are lower than luxury vehicles or high-volume full-size trucks.Regional Variations: Opinions on Reddit show mixed opinions, noting that while rates are nationally low, localized spikes can happen where opportunistic thieves target push-button start systems or accessible residential areas.Built-in Security: Standard factory immobilizers across modern Ford lineups make hot-wiring or casual theft extremely difficult.Prevention TipsKey Fobs: Store push-button key fobs away from doors in a Maverick Truck Club Forum Discussion recommended Faraday pouch to block relay-amplification attacks.Tracking: Utilize the built-in FordPass app alerts to notify you immediately if your vehicle moves without authorization.

I was gonna ask why until I googled the answer myself. Another thing I have on mine which is more for me and my wife is a hidden gps the crooks wouldn't even know about. But crooks aren't stealing mavericks. We know where all 4 of are cars are at all times.

You can buy up to 24 months of service directly when buying from Amazon. I have 4 and we just pay annually. I go on the computer and set my geofences and alerts. Their customer service has been good too. My wife and I can see where our cars are at all times with our phones. And the device is easy to hide in the car, just hook it up to constant 12v power and your good.
