We know this is the broader customer concern about CVTs because a few manufacturers have now spent resources to implement simulated gear shifts to replicate fixed ratios under some driving conditions.
The simulated gear shifts actually alleviate some of the rubber band effect, which is also a likely reason for implementing them. Source: my Subaru has paddle shifters and a CVT, I have first-hand experience with this.

We both can speculate all we want, but neither of us knows the true reason for implementing software simulated gears in a CVT.

I think what makes a continuously variable transmission drive like a continuously variable transmission is the "continuously variable" part - the holding of engine speed at nearly constant rpm under acceleration while varying the ratio. The vehicle's acceleration is largely detached from a change in engine rpm.
And when the Maverick's engine isn't even running, then what? It drives like an EV, which is a much closer comparison than to compare it to a traditional CVT.

This is a driving characteristic that Ford's continuously variable transmission shares with other CVT's. All the wild gesturing about rubber band does not change this fact.
We get it, you like the vroom vroom of a normal transmission. No one is disputing your preferences here. We're just trying to get you to stop equivocating the eCVT with a traditional CVT.

They are not the same thing. Period.

We definitely know the reason why manufacturers have implemented simulated gear shifts. The product planners have been very clear that customers don’t like the high rpm droning. It works against fuel economy to implement them.

My point from the beginning remains: like the broader public I don’t like this driving characteristic either, which brings us back to the broader message of my original post about the superior driving dynamics of the ecoboost versus the hybrid.

NO. Your point is still misconstrued as you continue to conflate the CVT with the eCVT.

You don't like immediate torque upon throttle input? That is absurd.

Despite all the name calling going around, I'm always interested in a fact-based point of view, and would be interested in this argument if you'd like to make it.
I would love to. Ready?
Let's start with the engines.
The 2.5L is less complex and requires far less maintenance than the Eco 2.0L.
No turbo and the required turbo accessories including the intercooler and piping, boost control, blow-off valve and added hoses to cool the turbo. As you know turbos add a lot of heat to the engine bay.
Port injection to direct injection. So no worry in the 2.5L down the road of carbon buildup on the back of the intake valves. No high pressure fuel pump and required hoses either.
No serpentine belt, tensioner or idler pullies. This is a maintenance item that requires replacement typically along with the spark plugs. No need in the 2.5L, but you will need to do on the Eco 2.0L.
No alternator on the 2.5L. Very common failure component after 100K miles that Hybrid owners don't have to worry about.
No starter on the 2.5L. Another component failure Hybrid owners don't worry about.
Electric AC on the Hybrid vs belt/clutch driven AC. Much better performance from electric AC, don't know about longevity but I do know the clutch typically fails in belt driven AC compressors.
So we should be able to agree the 2.5L is a much less complex engine than the 2.0L and will require less $$ to maintain over its lifespan.
Regenerative braking further reduces maintenance costs by not only keeping the battery charged but lessening the use of brakes and the engine so brake pad replacement is lengthened and oil changes are not as frequent.
Next e-CVT vs 8-speed trans in the Eco 2.0L.
The Hybrid trans is a simple planetary gear set with an electric motor hooked up to it. There are no clutches, solenoid packs, TQ convertor. There are 1/3 less moving parts in the Hybrid e-cvt than the 8-speed. Which by definition means less to go wrong or break. Electric motors are simple and will last much longer than any combustion engine. The only add to the Hybrid is the Li-Ion battery, which is maintenance free. The operation of all of this is just software as to when the electric motor operates vs the 2.5L engine. Heck I even have the same drive modes...including "Sport Mode" :like:
Finally,
Ford also says its more reliable.
Hybrid components come with an 8yr/100,000 mile warranty.
The 8-speed 5yr/60,000 mile warranty.

Class Over.

I first want to thank everyone that has or is on this forum. I have been on here since 2022 learning about the Mavericks.
I saw last year a preview of a different restyled truck not much more in price than a Lariat and others are getting for the 2025 model year. . I only drive 5 miles to work so I started looking for this model year truck and I had a great offer on trading in my 2022 Ford Xlt FX4 AWD Maverick. It had 4k tow , and luxury package also. It had 21,400 miles on it.

This last Saturday I picked up a 2025 Nissan Frontier Pro-4x in Boulder grey pearl with convenience package. It has spray in bed liner, heated seats and steering, 12.2 screen, locking differential, surround cameras, adaptive cruise, locking tailgate, hill descent, 400 watt inverter in bed, 2 120 outlets inside, push button start, wireless phone charger, wireless car play, led lights in the bed, under seat rear storage.
One of the best features is a naturally aspirated 3.8 liter making 310 hp. This is a proven combination with the 9 speed automatic.
This is the only mid size without a turbo now. Looks super easy to work on in the future under the hood. Which has hood struts.
I feel more safer in the bigger Frontier than the Maverick. Plus there is more inside room and the bed is bigger.

I know I won’t get the mpg’s I was getting in the Maverick but it’s well worth it.
The bed on the Maverick was 33 cubic feet and this is 40.
I know what some are thinking Nissan having issues, but that’s the time to make a deal.
$45,000 out the door, minus my trade.
I received in the 20’s for my Maverick and had them throw in all weather mats. And I had a 2” lift on it and was going to take it off to sell it and didn’t have to. They didn’t seem to mind about it.
Good luck to all and thanks for all the learning, advice, and enthusiasm.

Oh and I traded it in with the back up camera recall. Happy I didn’t have to go to dealer again for another one.
Also get 2 years of Maintenance free.
The tailgate comes with a dampener and the inside the bed has one rail inside the bed and also one towards the back of the bed for the adjustable cleats. Cool thing is the cleats are removable and can be installed in which ever rail you need.

I will say and agree that anyone that likes to modify their engines for more power, there is ONLY one choice and that is the Eco 2.0L.
As someone who has owned and modified Turbo 4's the new Ranger with the 2.7LTT V6 would be fun to mess with.

Thanks. There are midsizes now 50-60’s. I watched a you tube video of a taco on the lot for $68,000.
I can't stand what happened to trucks over the past 10 years to so. The luxury end of the market is eating into the utilitarian roots and low end of the market. Less options for us value hunters and work/sport people on lots.

However, I can't argue with the manufacturers tactics. They seem to be successfully taking market share away from luxury sedans. Seems a bit like SUVs replacing wagons in the 90's and 00's.
