Issue with trying to flat tow

We have flat towed our Maverick several times behind our RV with no issues. Recently, after driving our Maverick normally, when we turn the ignition off we are getting the message “Neutral tow enabled. Leave transmission in neutral.” This is after normal driving of the Maverick when we put the transmission in park and turn the vehicle off. The Maverick drives fine, but receiving this message does not allow me to put it in actual tow mode. Has anyone else run across this or know what may be triggering this?

Yes, been covered in several threads, just have to search for them. The search function can be iffy. I had that happen once because I did not follow the proper sequence to take it out of tow mode. I fixed it by disconnecting battery cable, drank a beer, then reconnected battery cable. It was my fault and to prevent this from happening again, I printed out the tow mode procedure on a 5X8 card, laminated it and put in glove box. I also printed the procedure for starting and running the vehicle at the appropriate times. No issues in last year and a half! Good luck!

Yes, been covered in several threads, just have to search for them. The search function can be iffy. I had that happen once because I did not follow the proper sequence to take it out of tow mode. I fixed it by disconnecting battery cable, drank a beer, then reconnected battery cable. It was my fault and to prevent this from happening again, I printed out the tow mode procedure on a 5X8 card, laminated it and put in glove box. I also printed the procedure for starting and running the vehicle at the appropriate times. No issues in last year and a half! Good luck!

Love you artillery guys. I started off as a heavy mechanic. Bad tinnitus. If you haven't done so, please get to the VA and get that hearing checked. My ears ring so bad awarded me 10% disability.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on our last RV trip. As Dave said, disconnecting the battery for 10 or so minutes apparently resets the computer controller for the neutral tow setting. No problem since then. I have flat towed the Maverick close to 15k without anyother problems.

I was E5 medic in nam, light infantry. Ears been ringing since from quite a few booby traps, 155 shot just over my head out of sight 40' away (gun dug into hole on fire support base). I went and had hearing checked but fell for trap question "has your hearing gotten worse since you got out", said a little= denied. So and question "I haven't heard anything since before I got out. I also loved artillery guys with the long range guns that could drop rounds within few feet of map coordinates.

Unknown to me wife retyped it on a regular 81/2 X 11 regular paper because type was too small. Still fits in glove box just fin

Thanks Tom. I joined the Army in 1973, just after the draft had ended. Wife and I were young and I wanted to go ahead and get in and get my time done, as I thought they might come back with a draft again. Troops were already being pulled out of Vietnam and the last ones were withdrawn in 1975. Remember those famous pictures of the Huey's rescuing people off the rooftops in Saigon. 20 years and NO combat time for me. Had several friends and a nephew who went. Nephew and a couple others never got back home. I am blessed, but would have went if they needed me to go. Thanks to all the vets on this site and the others who did not serve but are 100% supportive, we appreciate it and many of us would do it again if need be!
