I'm wondering if i'm doing something wrong, or if something is wrong from the factory.

I have my switch to the "Off position" and my front domes still come on.

If I "Push" on the button just a tad bit more (into Off), it does turn the lights off fully (as expected), but doesn't stay off after i release the light pressure.

It seems like a switch issue to me?
Anyone have similar issues? Solutions?
I'll ask dealer about it when I'm in for an oil change.

I'm not sure if this dome light is any different than for previous models, so maybe its not limited to 2025s.

Interior Lighting – Frequently Asked Questions

Why do my courtesy lamps or interior lamps turn off when I have them switched on when I switch my vehicle off?
  • The battery saver turns the courtesy lamps and interior lamps off after a short period of time after you switch your vehicle off.

Thanks, I found that, and made sure I was reading/seeing it right.

I have mine pressed into Off, like I marked below.
But the lights do not stay off.
If I push it slightly further into 'Off', they do turn off, but requires that I hold that bit of pressure on the switch. Which doesn't seem right at all.

I could probably remove the overhead lighting pod and figure something out, but I think this is a Ford [warranty] thing to fix, and hopefully they won't make it worse?

I’m having the same issue!!! I literally bought the car this week. When I push the light in the off position it turns off but once I release pressure it’s back to the doors open lights on setting. I’m going to take it in Saturday hopefully falls under the 15 day warranty for new cars. Did you find a solution?

If it's not working right, take it to them . But to keep them off. Press the switch a bit harder, and it will click into place. From the way it looks, it's flush. That's in the door position where the lights come on when the doors are opened. When it is in the off position, it will not be flush. It will be slightly recessed.

I never found a fix, and starting to think its 'by design'.

I didn't want to take it to service and have some noobs ripping my roof liner and light switches apart, and messing up my tint and windshield and mirror/interior.

So, i'm just living with it. Off doesn't mean OFF all the time.

Please let me/us know if you are able to get it straightened out.
I'm more likely to 'fix it myself' than have Ford Service try to figure out and have to keep my truck for however long for them to figure it out.

Edit: adding pics to try to explain.
To add another variable, this is Only while the Ignition switch is ON.
If you first enter the vehicle (Ignition OFF), with the door open, the lights are Off.
Once you turn On the ignition, with door open, the lights turn On.

IMO, if switch is OFF, dome lights should NOT ever, turn On...unless I change this switch.

Overhead Map Light reads in the Ford manuals like it's a Demand Light/Lamp.
If it's only the Map Light acting up, I'd guess the console's switch or circuit board.
If it's the problem, appears the entire console has to be replaced since it's one circuit board assy.

The interior lighting system consists of:
• Courtesy lamps
• Demand lamps
• Ambient lighting

The demand lamps subsystem consists of:
• Interior lamps (Map lamp)
• Vanity mirror lamps
• Cargo lamp
• Truck bed lamp
• Truck bed lamp switch
• Trailer assist lamp
• BCM
The demand lamps provide illumination to specific areas within the vehicle when needed.

The front interior lamp sends a message to the rear interior lamp to activate/deactivate it through a LIN circuit.

PINPOINT TEST D: THE INTERIOR COURTESY LAMPS STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY
Ford Maverick Issue: 2025 front dome light switch doesn't seem to work quite right?? 1761339115184-u3

The BCM provides automatic shut-off of the courtesy and demand lamps after a time-out period when the ignition is off.
When 10 minutes (30 minutes for demand lamps) have elapsed, the BCM automatically shuts off voltage to the lamps.
A timer in the BCM starts/restarts (voltage is restored if the BCM is in battery saver mode) when:
• the ignition transitions to off.
• the front or rear interior lamp was switched on.
• any door becomes ajar.
• any button of a RKE transmitter is pressed.
• a door is unlocked using the passive entry feature.
• a valid code was entered on the keyless entry keypad.

Courtesy Lamps
The BCM controls the courtesy lighting and timing functions by monitoring inputs from the following:
• Ignition state
• Courtesy lamp switch (integrated into the overhead console)
• Door ajar switches
• Liftgate ajar switch
• RKE system
The BCM sends a voltage signal to each door ajar switch. When the doors are closed, the circuit is switched to ground and the voltage is pulled low, indicating closed doors.
The BCM monitors the ignition state and inputs from the RKE system to determine when to energize the interior light relay. When the interior light relay is energized, voltage is provided to the interior lamps. The BCM controls the voltage side of the courtesy lamps for the illuminated entry and exit features.
For keyless entry, the BCM monitors input from the RKE transmitter (directly from the integrated keyhead transmitters (IKTs) on vehicles without push button start) or from the RFA module (on vehicles with push button start) to determine when to activate/deactivate the illuminated entry and exit functions.

There is definitely something wrong with your dome light.

This light has been used on at least a half-dozen vehicles since 2020. They wouldn't update it to work in such a silly way for 2025. My dome light is always Off when set to "Off". And there is no slop in the switch at all -- I cannot effectively add any more pressure to the switch. I think the problem is probably the switch, not the circuit board.

If you want to investigate further, it is very easy to remove the dome assembly, circuit board, and switch.

This video shows how to pull it down and disassemble:

Thanks, I think I've looked at some of those videos too, didn't seem bad.
I looked and poked and pryed at mine a bit, but didn't get after it too hard and decided to leave it alone.
Not worth me wasting time on it by tearing my new truck apart, or having it sit at the dealer for them to tear into it.

I'll live with it, until it needs to visit Ford for something else.

I usually just Ignition off before a Door opens anyway. So its a pretty easy 'work around' with no serious consequence.

Looks like you have a bad switch. Take it in to get it fixed.
