I never check the accuracy of the Speedo prior to changin tires

Changed to 225/65-17 bfg trail terrain

Per manufacturer spec stock and these are same diameter

I’m using an iPhone Speedo app and I am seeing 1.5 to 2 mph lower on the app than the Speedo.

Anyone checked theirs?

You can't be certain the app is accurate.

Pretty common for it to be off a tad.

haha I spit up a little of my coffee when I saw the title.

have you checked the accuracy of the speed app? I would not be surprised if it has a 1-2mph margin of error range.

To answer your intended question: yes, yes it is off, but unfortunately you're not my type.

To answer about the speedometer, unless it says "certified" yes, it's "off." To that point, even if it says certified, unless it's had the calibration checked within specifications, it's still technically of.

Hmmm......so I wonder if 235/65R17 are actually closer to accurate than stock? I think they all should have been 235's anyway.

It is common for the speedo to say you are going faster than you actually are. This is to protect the manufacturer form people speeding and not knowing it. This practice has been around for decades, or since electronic speedo have been a thing.

The speedo can be off up to 10% and still be within specs. This can usually can be adjusted with Forscan.

One thing to really pay attention to is the odometer which should be accurate (even though there is the 10% rule also). If this is off, saying you are going further than you are actually going then you will be loosing out of some warranty protection and the odometer should be calibrated. The odometer and speedo are usually separate calibration on modern vehicles..

The phone (GPS) is the proper tool to measure the accuracy.
