It seems most of them are a bit wonky like that. Hot Pepper Red is another where it looks very different depending on the lighting.

I have worked in lighting and color and I think the term dichrioc isn't really correct. That term refers to two distinct wavelengths propagating differently through an optical system.

What we see with Area51 and Cactus Grey is a trick of color rendering. Think of the truck as a filter that reflects some wavelengths and absorbs others. It's illuminated by a broad spectrum of light, but the content varies depending on time of day, cloud cover, etc. So the light you see reflected differs under different conditions and you perceive a different color. We call that PFM Technology...pure f'n magic.

Area 51 in person from what I have seen (bronco sports driving around) is a MUCH deeper/darker grey/blue then pictures seem to portray. Pictures portray it as a baby blue color most of the time when that is simply not the case even in direct sunlight. Personally love the color in person.

It was actually the opposite for me. I loved how the car looks in pictures and saw a bronco sport in area 51 and it became after 2 minutes super boring. I hate the fact that it is not a metallic color and again in person in looks really different than in all these shiny pictures. I decided to go for alto blue, which I think is the hottest color on the Maverick.

Yes that’s true. I have seen a couple Bronco sports driving around town here in Las Vegas and Area 51 looks much darker then the pictures I have seen, and that’s with full sun not a cloud in site. I think that’s a color you have to see in person to really appreciate it. Definitely not a baby blue like people are saying.

Cell phone cameras have lots of digital processing. So the colour accuracy of the image can vary a lot depending on the brand. A51 having seen it multiple times in person looks a bit darker than any of the photos I have seen especially in direct sunlight. Its also more blue looking than grey.

Cactus grey is a very light colour almost white. Its very close to clean and dry brand new cement but with a hint of mint green.

I was skeptical so I used a color picker program that shows the RGB values of where your cursor is on the screen. By Jove! They are the same.

I saw the color at the Denver Auto show, Definitely grey/blue rather than blue/grey ; )

Correct - I noticed the same thing. That's why I switched from Area 51 to Cactus Gray. I did not like the baby blue.
