Yeah, I'll agree with ya on the front. It was always going to look more SUV-like, but I'm not a huge fan of the silver bar that goes across the front. It's kind of like the brown seats on the Lariat...I don't love it, but I'll live with it.

If someone prefers the higher step-in height of a body on frame pickup, then they should buy a body on frame pickup. If someone doesn't like the look of the Maverick then they shouldn't buy the Maverick. I'm not trying to be an ass, but I've seen so many posts, in various places, about things like this and I don't get it.

Ford was pretty upfront about what this truck is and who it's designed for. If I'm going out rock climbing, or for some hard core off-roading, then the Maverick isn't my chariot of choice. In that case I'll take a Ranger/Tacoma/Colorado/F150/etc... If I need something to drive around the city or suburbs, make a trash or home improvement store run, then hands down I'd take the Mav.

This wont be my first truck, and probably won't be my last, and I'm certain it'll handle everything I need from it. I don't need Moab levels of trail running, just something I can drive on a beach (with recovery gear and AT's) from time to time. I don't need to tow a bajillion pounds, just a small utility trailer every now and then. If I have those heavier needs in the future I'll look towards vehicle solutions that can deliver that to me, otherwise I'll be just fine with my little "trucklette" and the gas savings that it can generate me.
I don't see a problem with the OP's original post. This is a forum to discuss the Maverick. Naturally, discussion will encompass a wide range of topics in regards to the Maverick. What people like and don't like. What trims they're going to buy, how the Maverick compares to the competition, etc. There's nothing "to get".

What I am looking for is to replace an old 2 door Chevy S-10 ss. I don't need a work truck, I need the convenience of having a small truck bed to haul landscape stuff for our yard, our bikes or have projects that require materials that can be too long for a car. The Maverick fits what I need perfectly (except the ugly interior). I love the size of it, the looks of it and hope my husband agrees it fits his needs too. He needs to make sure a motorcycle will fit.

I get what you're saying. When I was looking at Rangers, one of the things I really liked was the high stance and the need to kind of climb up into the cabin. But the price was a real turn off and just about when I was giving up the Mav was announced.

Currently driving a Nissan Altima with a clearance of 5.4” which is like a low rider in comparison. Wife’s Mazda CX5 has a 7.6” clearance and doesn’t look or feel low, in fact it has a pretty high looking, aggressive stance that was both enjoy seeing. For me I can slide right into it, for her it’s a little bit of a jump in.

Given all those parameters for me, I think he Mav is perfect with its 8.3” clearance. Also think it will look and feel different in person, cameras just never give the full story.

this exactly. The front end is a turn off for me, but I'll live with it since I won't have to see it while driving the Mav :cool:For some reason Ford has just been putting ugly designs on the truck front ends for years and I don't get it. Our 2018 F-150 has stupid double bars across middle of the grill. The latest trends with the C shaped "chrome" bezels around the headlight is a head scratcher  The only thing worse they could have done IMO is added useless and ugly LED strip lighting around the front end for accent like so many others did.

Honestly I like the Maverick because it doesn't look just like a traditional truck. I actually makes me think a little back to the Subaru Baja, but it's a bit more trucky than that, haha.

That being said, I am almost directly their target customer. I'm 31, 6'6, and don't give much a care about towing anything crazy outside of general furniture or DIY projects from the lumber store. I love the look of the Maverick, and I like the idea of a bigger vehicle with better gas mileage than my current little hatch that I basically fall into.

I'm looking and trying to see how you're seeing an SUV on the profile but I just can't perform the mental gymnastics to see the perspective, haha. To each their own, but that isn't something I can even see.

Funny, when I first saw the Maverick I was surprised at how “lifted” it looked. Visually more than an older 2WD Ranger. I was elated at the standard 8.3” of ground clearance.
The ground clearance for the 2021 Ranger is listed at 8.4". My '06 Ranger is 7.7". When my Maverick shows up I'll be stepping up in more ways than one. ;)

Good point; the direction of Ford's styling is not to my liking either. Sans the front end, I really like the Maverick. Spy photos of the 2023 Ranger has me wondering, and not in a good way.

That's what's odd to me: it has the ground clearance, numerically, but visually from the front, and front side, it looks low. My last gen 2WD Ranger has similar clearance, but it looks a lot less thick; it looks to be much higher off the ground.

That puts me in the same boat: I dunno what's happened with the current craze, but today's trucks are simply too big (and this comes from a poster with a class A CDL license).

I’d be lying if I said when they first announced the ranger coming back I wasn’t hoping for something similar to the look and size of the Maverick. I think that is exactly what happened when they launched the new Ranger and it ended up being almost the exact same size as the 2000’s F-150. Lots of enthusiasm but they realized there was a market for something a little smaller but too late to make it a mini-Ranger. My first vehicle was a 90’s Ranger and I currently drive a 2000’s F-150. This Maverick is only modestly smaller than my F-150 and I love that fact. Plus the mileage? I’m all in.

I really have no idea of what's in Ford's mindspace, and for people to say "Ford's been doing trucks forever, so they know what they're doing..." - that's not my sentiment.

Yes, Ford engineering knows what they're doing, but Ford marketing leaves me scratching my head sometimes.

Case in point: the upcoming 2023 Ranger looks longer than the current rendition; they've got a single cab running around, that's HUGE. Ford has too much product overlap. Granted, the upcoming Ranger will have a coil spring rear, so they might pitch it: "The Ranger has a floor shift/coil spring rear, while the F150 has leafs and a column shift." Both single cabs are the same size. Too much product overlap.

Back on the Maverick: I like the length, although an even shorter Maverick would've been nice, although not nearly as practical. I think they're gonna sell A LOT of Mavericks; I can't imagine them not STEALING the 20k market.

But Ford Marketing is gonna turn the world upside down with this little rig. Thank you Ford!

NDL, the front end, in my opinion, is only a bit over done. I'm with you, or whoever, on the bezel. But consider all of the other wretched rigs out there. Santa Cruz, Camry,..etc. Could be a lot worse. The XL I'm getting will have the glare factor reduced. I just hope I can aim the LED headlights so they are not a public nuisance.

This little uni-body can't be everything. It's pretty remarkable for what it is. It's small and that is beautiful!

I don’t have a problem at all with the styling, including the front end. I love how, in a small package, they’ve given the Maverick the blocky, traditional truck look. The headlights are pretty restrained compared to a lot of vehicles out there. Funny about how people are complaining about the cross bar, I think it adds character, the front end would be a little bland without it. For those who don’t like it, easy solution is go the XL route and paint it black (or better yet, spray it with black Plastidip so it won’t chip).

My reservation is for XL which has darker crossbar, and happy about that. Contrasts better with my Oxford White paint choice. Not sure how much work would be involved removing just the crossbar for painting but Plasti Dip treatment sounds interesting. I'd actually try to swap the XL grill with another anyways as design is too funky compared to other trims. YMMV

Exactly! The only "lift" method I'm a fan of is adding bigger tires as that actually raises all the things that hang down low. I have the 235/65r17s coming on it and will probably try to squeeze another .5-1" onto the diameter when I replace those in a few years.
How do you correct for speedometer error with larger tires? Can that be programmed in to the vehicle?

I have a 6' bed F-150 and I still have to leave the tailgate down, even with the bike on a diagonal.
