Is a maintenance plan expensive? Is it worth it?

Thanks for the input on the extended service plan. I'm calling Granger in the morning. We have just under 9200 miles on our 2023 Maverick hybrid. The 3/36000 expires on Nov 16 of this year. Other than the deep sleep issue occasionally, we never had it not start. Planning on getting the 10000 mile service done soon, and will have things checked for any possible problems that may arise after the deadline. Does Granger offer a maintenance program too? Is it cost effective since we are not really doing anywhere close to excessive mileage. Oil has been changed twice since we bought it. Thanks again for any thoughts and suggestions you all will provide.

Having purchased the first rollout of the new Mavericks (2022), I definitely opted for the extended warranty. I figured buying the first year is similar to beta testing. The 2023 is close enough to the first Mavericks, so I'd lean more to getting the extended warranty. It's one of those situations whereby if you don't use it, you'll feel like you wasted your money, but if you have it and an expensive repair arises, then you'll be glad you did. Buying a new vehicle will probably be one of your more expensive outlays, so I see the extended warranty as protective maintenance. Good luck with your decision.

Naah, you'd be better off just paying out of pocket instead of the maintenance plan. There are only so many oil changes and windshield wipers that you can go through during its period, with a set of front brake pads if you're "lucky."
I'm a believer in the service plans IF YOU CAN GET IT AT A STEEP DISCOUNT, but that's a "throw match on gasoline" subject in these parts.

My advice, use caution, understand what you're signing up for. I had two occasions where I felt it was a wasted effort and no value for me.

1. When my daughter purchased her first car, I recommended she get the oil change service. This way, it's "prepaid" and all she has to do is take it to the dealer every 5000 miles. About a year later, she moves out of state. Unfortunately, the service plan was only valid at the original dealership. So she was SOL for the remaining service.

2. I bought a service plan for a previous truck. The dealer was local, but about a 40 minute drive and I had no plans on relocating. When it came time for the first oil change, I scheduled an early appointment. I arrived on time for what I expected to be a 30 minute oil change. It took over 2 hours. That's over 3 hours total just for an oil change. I didn't go back. Instead, I went to a quick lube shop about 5 minutes away.

I'm not saying service plans are bad or a scam. Just make sure you find value in it.

In general, the reason why dealers push extended warranty plans is because they’re money makers. In fact, big time. If they cost dealerships, Ford or Granger money overall, they wouldn’t be sold. Yes, there are many exceptions. But people beat Vegas too. Just not overall.

If you follow any of my answers to questions about ESP's, I always recommend members to get a 10 year ESP from Granger. Keep your Maverick at least 7 years, then decide to sell, with transferable 3 years left for the next owner, or trade in, and get a refund for the remaining 3 years. The cost of labor alone will bring any repair over $1K including the parts. Nice to know if the drive train blows up, it only cost you $100 deductable for Ford to replace what it needs.

The things that are likely to fail (like the 12v battery or brakes for examples) are considered wear items and not covered by an extended warranty. Extended warranty is useless for 99% of the people purchasing one.
