Seems we are finding this to be true. The battery cannot handle any drain. Are we seeing this in any other of Ford's hybrids?
Not uncommon on the Escape. They often upgrade the 12v battery although the Escape has more room for a larger one.

honestly these batteries in the hybrid are tiny and suck...literally any draw on them after the car is off will drop it bellow 12v in a few hours...i had a dashcam in parking mode and had to put the car on a battery tender every night if i didnt want to get the deep sleep error message
How long does your dashcam run in parking mode? Constantly?

Could this be related to your auto dimming mirror connection?

yah constantly, i may get a few hours before it kills the battery. it would be cool if while the car is off the 12v could charge off the HVB to keep it topped up. After i shut car the off you can hearly all the clicking and clacking of solenoids going on so im sure its capable.

Does that solve the deep sleep problem?

When the 12v batt gets low, no lights even in the flat middle position near the mirror. If you press to the right lights will come on. Its been better after replacing some of the bulbs with Led's.
You're right. The lights will go on by pressing the lens. My beef is that the lights will not come on automatically when one unlocks and/or opens the doors when entering the vehicle. They will automatically light up after driving and shutting the vehicle off. Odd that they will come on in one instance, but not the other. I understand the deep sleep issue if the car has been sitting for a few minutes as other members have pointed out. Clearly, something is draining the battery even after a few minutes. Auto dimming mirror?

I've been wondering the same thing. Only way to check is to disconnect the mirror and see what happens. Thanks for bringing it up.

You'd be surprised how much electrical load these new vehicles have compared to something from twenty years ago. Electric power steering alone uses a significant amount of electricity, way more than your alternator can generate in a short amount of time for a relatively short trip. Add on an electric brake booster for hybrids and ecoboost equipped with ACC, tons of electrical equipment that vehicles didn't have 20 years ago, multimedia head units and loads of modules and sensors not to mention heated seats and steering wheels now that the weather is turning. Plus it's harder to charge a battery in cold weather. This is why Ford added the BMS (Battery monitoring system), because of all the electrical load on the battery. Even if you only do medium length trips let alone short trips your Maverick is still having a hard time replenishing the battery.

On top of it all the OEM battery is straight up made in china garbage. If you're unsure of whether or not your overhead lights are related to the deep sleep mode and BMS you can reset the BMS to see if the overhead lights work again when opening the doors. To do that:

with engine off and key in the "on" position, flash high beams 5 times then press the brake pedal 3 times, after a little while you should see the battery light blink in the instrument cluster and that means the BMS has been reset. Your overhead lights should work as normal now when you open the doors or at least until the BMS puts your Maverick back into deep sleep mode. If you have a multimeter you can also easily perform a draw test to see what your auto dimming mirror is drawing with ignition off, if any.

Any time your run a constant Dashcam when the vehicle is off you need a dedicated auxiliary battery for it. Running a Dashcam off the vehicle constantly will drain virtually any battery.

I run Garmin Dashcams in 5-6 of my cars and power them through the OBD with a Garmin adaptor which is programmable for 10/30/infinity after key off..

This is great information! Thank you! I will definitely give this a try. Since I have a push start/off rather than a key, I'm going to assume putting it in accessory mode will do the same. Quite a procedure. I was half-expecting to see hopping around on one foot for a minute as part of the sequence of events. lol.

^^ or spend 30 seconds checking the voltage at the pins under the hood. If the voltage is low the lights won’t work and you are in deep sleep. Eventually it will report deep sleep on the app...

I think he knows the battery is low but it seems like he's concerned whether or not the lights not working is directly related to deep sleep or if it's a more complicated issue altogether. What I suggested should rule out any complicated issues since I'm confident it's due to deep sleep.

"Dad" stated that he hasn't checked voltage yet and has questioned whether switches or settings are the lighting issue.

It's not known whether the battery is low until the voltage is checked. After battery voltage is confirmed, resetting the BMS may allow the interior lights to come on unless the truck instantly goes back into deep sleep. I don't know what delay is built into the BMS circuit triggering deep sleep but I suspect we can all agree his concern exhibits all the characteristics of a low +12V battery.

I have the exact issue in my Hybrid and am replacing the battery to rule that out of the equation. As there are virtually no replacements other than Motorcraft, at least it wont be the same lot or date code as the original.

Good luck to all with this issue...

I believe NAPA makes a replacement for the Hybrid, not sure if it's AGM but it might be better than the OEM made in China battery. I replaced mine a few weeks ago with an Interstate AGM and since it's an easier to find group 48 size battery. While it doesn't address the fact that the Maverick has inherent parasitic drain probably due to modem connection and Fordpass app feature availability since I updated the BMS with Forscan to let it know that it has an AGM battery in it, it should charge faster and more efficiently than the stock lead acid battery and do a better job at replenishing the battery on short to medium distance trips.
