I was under same mindset years ago when stop/start came out(“We are gonna see a bunch of cars needing starters now!”). But I think I’ve seen one stop/start vehicle need a starter since the beginning of the trend.A hundred bucks is cheaper than a new starter motor out of warranty.
Where are you getting those figures from?Auto Stop/Start saves on average 4% for most drivers, and as much as 10% depending on driving habits (such as sitting in those long Costco gas lines).

Without having a depth of knowledge on this specific subject, ill just apply the general logic of "eco friendly" and government BS in general.
This feature is one that sounds great on paper, and provides a measurable immediate result. However, just like many things the government does to 'sound' like its helping, there is a longer term set of problems that arent being acknowledged.
1. I cannot see a world where increasing the number of start cycles on an engine improves its longevity.
2. Wouldnt be surprised if auto start/stop has a negative impact on carbon buildup on valves.
3. Wouldnt be surprised if this has a negative impact on all other belt driven accessories.
What likely is the end result of all of this (just guessing) is that the engines will fail sooner, starters will fail sooner, and batteries will fail sooner which would offset the emissions advantage of saving a few gallons a year in gas.
However this benefits the auto manufacturer - for increased service visits and also the vehicle not being on the road as long (ie can anyone tell me why ford doesnt use port injection as well oh thats right).
If we really cared about eco friendly we'd be ensuring 300k-500k miles out of every vehicle manufactured - but we dont so....

I drove a loaner Subaru for 3 months and put nearly 5k miles on it. The dash had a tracker for how much gas was actually saved during that time. It was less that 1 gallon. Idling for an extra couple minutes on your daily commute is not wasting as much gas as it would seem. Totally useless feature.
Yeah it was a presumption on my part so time will tell on starter longevity. HOWEVER, this is NOT good for turbos and their engines. You *do not need* it for the Hybrid.Now we need an Auto Eco Mode adapter for the Hybrids. The auto start/stop was annoying as hell though on my EcoSport loaner. I felt like it would put more wear and tear on the car than the gas it would save. Especially in SoCal when you need to run the AC all the time and it turns your AC off when the engine stops, not to mention the split second delay when you need to take off really fast exiting a small street. It seemed more dangerous than helpful.
