Informative video on oil, esp for ecoboost

Forgive me if it’s been posted but this is a good video to show there isn’t one best oil rather then the best oil for specific application. Pennzoil Ultra platinum did great on the turbo test. Lmk what you guys are running and at what OCI. I’m changing my break in oil tomorrow so I’ve been down a serious rabbit hole for a few days.

I run Mobile 1 ESP (euro spec) 0w-30 in all my EB engines. It's one of the few mid-priced synthetics that holds viscosity for more than a couple thousand miles. I think it's the best value (bang for the buck) oil available.

Mobile 1 ESP is a great oil

Do you use that because of warranty? Did you watch until the end of the video? They reviewed how all those oils held up on the turbo engine test. I’ve always been a mobile 1 or Amsoil guy but I’ve always been curious about Pennzoil.

I've been running the OEM Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-30 in my truck (5k mile changes), but when I hit the 50k mile mark this summer I'll probably look into changing to something else. I run Mobil 1 5W-30 in my Corvette, so maybe I'll switch to that for the Mav too just so I can buy all the same oil LOL.

I could run the cheapest Walmart roach oil in my 2024 Ecoboost at 5K service intervals and my engine would last longer than most every Maverick owner. Because most every owner will trade in/up before they have any noticeable engine wear due to oil choice.

Oh you absolutely could, changing on time matters far more than brand.

With that said, better formulations resist the heat of the turbo center section better leading to less turbo wear, and they deal with soot suspension from the GDI injection better too, leading to reduced wear of timing components over the long haul. In my opinion it's not much extra $ in the long run to potentially avoid unexpected gotchas. You don't need to use Amsoil or anything boutique like that either.

I use full synthetic because it has smaller molecules that fit closer together. That means I got more oil between bearing surfaces.

I’m total Motorcraft, fluids and all parts.
Because of the Turbo and its tiny twin oil screens I run full synthetic.

I’m still using Motorcraft synthetic blend but think I will go to full synthetic on my next oil change. Our local Ford dealer keeps calling me to bring it in for oil changes but I’m still doing it myself.

Yes and yes. DIY oil changes with oil purchase receipts in the dealers “computer”. Not necessary I know - but a habit I’ll maintain for life of warranty.

Not necessary because my EB is strong and will never need a warranty claim. And also because any brand oil that meets Ford Spec won’t affect warranty.

That said, those tiny & hard to replace oil filters on the turbo give me the heebee geebees thanks to Cherokee!
