Inexpensive Tie Downs

Instead of spending hundreds for the bed rail system that Ford sells, I went to Home Depot and spent less than $14 to put two of these in.

It's an M8 bolt and a medium duty D ring.

Caveat: it's only anchored on one side.

But for what I need, it'll do just fine.

I used these. SamIdea(TM) 5-Pack M8 Stainless Steel Shoulder Lifting Eye Bolt Ring With Male Thread from amazon .work for me but no you cant tie down but so hard.

Those will work. I thought about buying some but decided I wanted the D rings that lay flat.

Because there is only a single threaded hole

Another thread said these holes are for three or four bolt rails to spead the load. That single bolt anchors may deform the bed side if too much load exerted.

Any anchor point will deform the bed if "too much load exerted"

Good point.

Exactly how much load is too much? I think if people use reasonable care they will have no problems with these single attachment point tie downs.

I doubt i will haul a refrigerator or anything similar.just use common sense and you will be fine!

I picked up my Maverick yesterday and put the D rings on this afternoon. The bolt hole in the D rings were 1/4" so I reamed them out with a 5/16" drill bit. The 8mm bolts worked fine after that.

Your bed looks really good.

I went with the Ford bed mat and tailgate cover. I'm surprised at how "sticky" the rubber mat is. It may be a pain if I do want to slide something around in the bed.

And you don't want to add a second bolt?

For what I am doing, no.

It's primarily to lock the cooler I use to transport milk and other temperature sensitive items in place. It also keeps the cooler from sliding around when it's empty.

A vagrant sneaked into the garage where the truck is parked and stole the previous cooler out of the bed. The single bolt will allow me to lock it up with a cable lock. And they won't be able to pull it out.

I had picked up a pack of Ford compatible tie downs off Amazon, since I’d read that the XL was lacking some of them.

Picked up the truck this weekend and it seems to have all of the tie down points occupied. Maybe because I got the tie down rail kit that “came with” the SIBL?

Two Drings on the front floor, and 4 cleats at the rear, plus the adjustable bars.
