Is there something I'm missing here? If you put your phone in here while plugged in, you'd need an excessively flexible and thin cable - like none I've ever seen. Why even have that lower divot?

Wonder if a 90° cord would work in this case.

I have been wondering the same thing. Would only make sense if you ran the cable up through the bottom of that cradle. which I suppose is possible….

I certainly won't defend it as perfect, but I am very satisfied with the setup. I use two phones - one personal and one work phone. I place my work phone on the flat charging pad. I use my personal phone (iphone) with a 90 degree cable. Here is the part I used (Amazon description, but I'm not sure if it's OK to place actual links):

Osecet iPhone Charger 1ft MFi Certified 5 Pack Right Angle Lightning Cable 1 Foot 90 Degree Nylon Braided iPhone Charging Cable for iPhone 13 12 11 Pr

I also use a pop-socket that basically, when extended, rests over the back of the upright. I'm sure it would work similar without the pop-socket, but I've grown accustomed to using it and am happy that it works well with it on:

SUPERONE Compatible with iPhone 12 Mag Safe P-Socket Base
PopSockets PopGrip: Swappable Grip for Phones & Tablets

Somewhere on here, probably a year or so ago, there was a good post by a guy who rigged his phone cable to come up below the divot there, completely hid the cable away, very nice setup.

Does that orange cradle come out? Or is it part of the plastic panel? Are those little holders on all trim levels?
Thanks!

I have been thinking the same thing! It appears to me that this spot is designed for holding a phone. I came across this video on youtube where the guy uses a magnetic phone charging adapter and feed the connector through the bottom:

I bought a magnetic charging cable like the one he suggested (the actual one he bought isn't available at the moment) but, the cable I bought was hit or miss with Apple Carplay

You are correct. I did the modification and it worked well enough though not perfectly. I decided to just eliminate the cable and opted for one of those wireless connector devices that use BT. Amazon has a bunch of them. Highly recommend.

I did try it out before I bought my proclip mount. Worked and fit fine with the USB-C cable plugged into my S22 Ultra. I used a standard usb-c cable, no need for a angled cable.

The rubber cover does, yes.
