Have you driven with both bikes in the bed yet? If so was there anything noteworthy about the experience?

I have a 2.5L hybrid in the XLT same color Cactus Grey (yours looks awesome). My bike is a KTM500exc so looks to fit fine. This is my truck, just picked it up 3 days ago. The two motorcycles in the bed are a Honda 450 and a KTM 300. Fit very well. Put them in just to check if two would fit which they did easily. The other pictures is of my 250 gasgas at the track. Truck is fantastic no issues yet and is a bike hauling machine.
I don't know what the owner's manual says, but I wouldn't have a problem without any reinforcements. Is it recommended to reinforce the tailgate cables if doing this?
500 pounds is the rated limit. I'm sure the failure point is at least 1.5x the rated limit.Yes, but remember that if you decide to step up onto the tailgate with the bikes on there....adding your weight to it could/would exceed the 500 pound limit.
If you're pulling +2.5g's of downward acceleration while driving a Maverick, I'd be more concerned about passing out while driving than the tailgate cables breaking.Don't forget to allow for dynamic load on cables when driving if bikes start bouncing cables may have to support extra weight (maybe if rear tire weight = 75lbs cables may need to support x2.5=187.5lbs.
I had a trailer with the 8" wheels and 1" bearings. When the truck was doing 55, the trailer was probably doing at least 100mph. Truck had 34" tires; the 4.80-8 tires on the trailer are 16" in diameter.Probably need to use trailer for 2 or more bikes. I saw online a "trailer in a bag" for one or two big bikes. Tires were real small (8" rims I think) load range D requiring 80-90 psi. Ungodly rpm at 65 mph.
nope, drove like a charm. no issues. total weight of both bikes about 500 pounds. would drive anywhere like this, track etcHave you driven with both bikes in the bed yet? If so was there anything noteworthy about the experience?
The “ramp” weight will take all of the load weight of the m/c until the front tire hits the bed. Just saying..Great pictures, thanks for posting. My Rebel 1100 measures 82 inches. Can you please check if you can get 89 inches in total, from the upper left corner with the bed to the right end the tailgate down (total diagonal measure)? Thanks again!
Noted, thank you. For safety, may upgrade the original tailgate support cables with heavy duty replacement ones. The “ramp” weight will take all of the load weight of the m/c until the front tire hits the bed. Just saying..
What's the point of the moto gate thing?Did some test fitting today.
It's to let you stow gear between the bike or where ever. A supplementary tailgate when hauling bikes. Aka motogate lolWhat's the point of the moto gate thing?
If the straps fail, this won't do anything right? And it doesn't prevent Side to side sway either right?
Ah okay that makes sense. Thank you so much! I'll have to get one when I get the Mav. Cheers!!It's to let you stow gear between the bike or where ever. A supplementary tailgate when hauling bikes. Aka motogate lol
It's not for the bikes at all. And in over 7 years of hauling, have never had a strap fail on me.
