The combination of instant torque and the lack of gear changes means the maverick hybrid picks up speed super effortlessly up until about 50 mph. So many times I look down and I'm like, wow, I'm barely touching the gas but I'm already going 10 over the limit. There's no way the maverick hybrid setup "only" has 155 lb ft of torque. I believe reliable independent tests have shown it produces up to 267 lb ft briefly in the real world. That feels far more accurate.

My mav is in shipment, so I can't speak to that particularly, but I drive a Ford hybrid for work and found the exact same experience when I first started driving it. Kept looking down at the speedometer and going oh crap!!! There was a significant learning curve.

Thank you for the explanation! I have noticed this happening as I have gotten more accustomed to my hybrid within the year. I was going 61mph in a 45 mph zone last week when I looked at the speedometer...looked up and also saw a cop! Fortunately he knew me and I completely admitted I was wrong. He seemed more interested in the truck!! He did let me go and I said I was very sorry!!

On the EB: It is the fastest coasting vehicle I've ever owned. When you are doing ~60mph and start coasting down any incline you are rapidly accelerating beyond 80 in a few seconds.

Feels like it's running away.

Maverick EB also gets up to speed rather quickly. After driving the I-3 Escape for so long, I can feel that extra cylinder in the EB.

It's even worse in the F-150. Because you sit so high, you feel like you are going slower. And engines are so quiet nowadays. I've caught myself doing over 80 without realizing it on the interstate (I normally set it to 75 and park in the right lane).

I’ve only got 110 miles on my Maverick, but I frequently look down at the dash and find that I am going 10 MPH faster than I estimated. For me, the torque and acceleration don’t play any role because I am very light on the throttle. In my case, I think it may be due to the firm but smooth and vibration free ride, and the higher seating position compared to my old sedan. I don’t like speeding tickets, so I am trying to make a habit of checking the speedometer more frequently.

Wondering if the torque rating is also off on my ecoboost.it tows my 3100 lb boat as easily as my hemi ram.

Don't you just love it when someone "parks" in the right lane when you try to merge on to the interstate? Move it over Commadore!!!!;):D

Hybrid Maverick is fast???? I must have gotten a lemon. It gave me the feeling of the slowest car that I have ever owned. I think it is as slow as a Nissan Sentra 1.8s. EB has decent power which is much more than a hybrid.

Not sure why there is so much banter about EB vs Hybrid. Getting too much like politics!

While the Hybrid will certainly not outrun an EB in a drag race, what it does very well is respond to throttle in traffic and pulling away from a stop. MUCH better than turbocharged vehicles I had and have ( and still own an X-3) in that respect. This makes for a very nice driving experience. I liked that in the Cmax I had, and the Maverick seems to be faster than it was. eCVT transmissions might make it seem like little is happening. In fact the engine is held at its torque peak constantly for smooth acceleration. 7.7 second 0-60 is really NOT slow even by today's standards. Not fast either...but I have other vehicles if I feel the need for speed!

I have a hill by my house probably about 3/4 mile long and 8% grade. 2 lanes going up. I go left at the top and speed limit is 50mph. I get off the I-5 and going 50 at the bottom of hill. Some dbag riding my arse all the way from the off ramp. Stay in left lane, he still on my arse. I push the weeeeeee button and just as he jumps out to go around, I wanted to see what the little Mav could do on the hill. Well I couldn't believe the wind up noise when I went all in, this Mav took off up the hill without any hesitation or struggle. The Yota never got past my rear bumper and was fading. He only caught up because I had to let off for my turn. I know he couldn't see me through my tinted windows but if he could....he would've seen a big ol smile. I wonder what his face looked like

In my state, non-city freeway speed is 75. If you went that slow, you'd cause hella road rage and probably get run over. At the least, you'd get flipped off a lot!
