But when it hits single digit temps I go toes up on the couch, watch Net Flix and drink her home made hot chocolate.
When I'm home not going to and from work, my favorite place is on the coach playing games with my boys ... in my shorts, no socks, sometimes t-shirt, with wood stove cranking and keeping the living room 80+F :D

And ummm .... hot cocoa, definitely my favorite beverage, homemade of course, though I've never heard of the Judy's 1200 yr old recipe!

So the hybrid engine runs at a low or below normal operational temps. Because it’s not always on.
So in town your stopping and restarting a cold or colder than normal engine over and over ?
Heating up and cooling it down. That has got to be hard on any motor. Did Ford do something special to help the engine deal with all that heat cycling ?

I would think that is when the most engine wear occurs would it not ?

Second question from an Eco driver that may consider a hybrid for my next truck if fuel heads north if $5 a gallon.
Anyone have to replace the power batteries yet ?
I heard on a Lightening forum the main battery pack was way way north of $40,000.

Way back in the day a friend bought a used Prius with 180,000 miles. He got it cheap.
A new battery pack set him back only $2,400

Signed, a very curious internal combustion aficionado.
I’d want to know before I buy one because after this 2024 Eco AWD Lariat wears out I will most likely be looking at my last new car.
I have many times taken my vehicles past 350,000 miles with no problems. I’ve always installed larger transmission intercoolers using sound math to not over cool in the Florida heat where I grew up.
Never lost a tranny even in my Tacoma 2.7 Ltr that lasted 528,000 trouble free miles, then started loosing compression. Imagine that !

if someone kept a Hybrid Mav my mind says they would loose all the savings benefit of the hybrid mpg’s and then some when replacing the battery pack.
My simple math on the Ford F-150 Lightening bright the long term Mpg saving past zero way into the negative.
After a replacement battery the lifetime mpg’s would be right back in line with a big V-8
If Hybrid tech is not a better than average investment long term I’ll not get one.
I don’t plan on living forever.
Well, the engine isn't stone cold, just not hot enough to boil off the moisture.

In Finland "KalsarikƤnni" translates to drinking at home in your underwear, or, "pantsdrunk," if you prefer, The New York Times reported in 2020.

My 2022 hybrid came with automatic radiator shutters that due to a recall the bottom 2 or 3 were removed by a recall. I assume the newer ones not subject to recall have a full set to block air through the radiator.
Nope, 24MY mfg 3/24, so well outta range for engine issues - same 2 removed from upper and lower areas.

Saw some even newer ones in the dealer lot during summer - same thing.
I guess they realized it might be a good idea to have some air flow.
But does indeed stink in winter now.

One might think that - but doesn't require boiling for moisture to evaporate.
Dry air - our winters have it, and warm enough.

You can also catch the several threads of hybrid owners that did the oil analysis after a winter session and no moisture or fuel in the oil.

You ride a bike in -8F !!! Are you cwazy ??
I used to do worse than that in grad school in Iowa.

My apartment was about 2 miles from my department. We only kept one car which I couldn't have parked much closer than home, anyway.

So while the bus ran within a couple of hundred feed of my apartment, and within a few hundred of my department, biking in -20F (-60F with windchill) was far less unpleasant than being on a diesel bus (diesels thrum and I don't get along well to start with) full of hot humid air interrupted by blasts of cold dry air every time the doors opened! It would take a full half hour after getting to my office to recover. (but, gosh, that air was like a knife on the lungs, especially while climbing!)

Judy's 1200 yr old recipe
Given that the drink didn't exist until the coco from the New World met the milk of the Old World . . .

Id have to deal with all those wild hybrid quirks, cold running ICE, poor warm up heat in winter.
Big ass drop in mpg in winter,
Looks like lots of bugs and a big owner learning curve.

But I am confident Ford will fix the bugs and keep making improvements.

So !
To the task at hand.
The electric drive system is flawless for 8 years, ok 9.
The battery craps out.

Hey! I saved $4300 in fuel. I can buy that battery.

Uh Oh, That battery was what ?$4200 8 years ago.
Inflation,
So now I’ll want to keep my hybrid knowing all the fuel savings are gone if I keep it long term

Hey, I’m just an old fart wondering if I’ll be the first to find out.

2030 Year Maverick as follows

Ecoboost 2.0L AWD Hybrid
10 speed auto with paddle shifters.
Main battery can be replaced ONE cell at a time as needed.
Onboard AI has no trouble finding a bad cell.

Ford, That last paragraph was for your R&D people to ponder,
ā€˜On The Tree Of Woe’
:’P

Don’t forget to include a replacement of your 8F35 for $5500 too 🤣

The HV battery is DESIGNED to be lifetime. 15 years plus. My last one was going strong at age 14 and a quarter of a million miles. Then the vehicle was totaled in a rear end collision.

They can malfunction / break. Sure.
But you normally discover defects early. That's what the really long warranty is for.
But they just won't "wear out".

Hybrid cars and trucks are extra super gentle on the batteries. Super hot climates like Arizona, NM, and southern TX are worst case for the batteries and they are designed to last 15 years in those areas. In cooler climates they'll last 20 years.
