Many folks comment on this topic, claim no benifit in having a hybrid for 90% plus highway driving. So many mileage claims out there that just seem like B.S. Hoping for some input and opinions now the many have had their Maverick for some time. I drive for my business,, 60 to 70K a year,, 95% on the highway.

I don't drive highway much, but when I do it is no more than 60 MPH. With my hybrid, I am averaging 42-45 MPG.

I am averaging 28 mpg in town and I went on a 150 mile round trip on the highway Saturday and averaged 36.9 in my Lariat Lux FWD with Ecoboost. I was really impressed with the highway mileage. That was with 4 adults and driving the speed limit, in Eco mode, and running premium fuel. I think that the 18 inch Michelin Primacy with Low resistance rolling tires helped. I have not been able to duplicate that in my wifes XLT AWD FX4 with 17 inch Pirelli's and different gearing. Hers averages about 3 mpg less on both highway and city but she has a heavy foot too.

The hybrid will always get better milage.
Yep. Not downtalking the EB, it is great. But, the hybrid costs substantially less to buy, and on equal trips is more efficient, city or highway.

Not sure what “BS” you’re hearing, but pretty much all us Hybrid owners are getting mileage better than EPA. I am constantly getting 600 miles per tank and currently averaging 51 mpg with some highway driving mixed in daily.

I drive 225 miles a day, 90% highway, average speed 75 MPH: Manually calculated - consistently get 37-39 MPG (6000 & 8000 miles driven so far on 2 Hybrid Mav's)

The hybrid will always get the better MPG’s. It’ll use the engine to get it up to speed once you’re at the speed limit or target let off the gas and lightly push it again and the EV Motor will kick in till the battery’s low and or if you need more kick, like you gun it on the gas. And it’ll rinse and repeat that, but that’s what a hybrids designed to do.

it’s kinda fun doing it, especially since there’s a gauge called the “EV Coach” it helps you do this even more.

Remember, running a hybrid you can game the system in a way that ICE can't. You can focus on when and how you're going into and out of electric mode and optimizing your pedal pressing to extend that time as much at possible. The EPA estimate is based on the same driving you'd do in a standard ICE. Put your foot down and go. Hybrids can be finessed if you're willing to go a bit slower here or there or accelerate just a fraction of the power less off the line. ICE has no where near the payout for babying the gas pedal.

I do accelerate slower off the line than most vehicles. Because I can see real world advantages to that. When I get 50 or 60 mpg on my mornings, why would I put my foot down to erase all that just to get to the next traffic light faster?

My regular morning commute. Why wouldn't I strive for that? And that 50mpg was me running faster since I was late.

Here's some freeway driving. Total ON time was still 52mph and still averaged 40.8 mpg.

And I wasn't babying it all the time.

Once you drive a hybrid you'll see how much you can improve or harm your mileage that you will start adjusting your driving when it's beneficial.

As folks have said, you'll always get better mileage in the hybrid in basically any situation. The difference between hybrid and EB on the highway may not be as large as with city driving, but the hybrid will always win.

On the mostly freeway (70mph) trips I've made in my hybrid, mileage has been in the upper 30s if not better

I bought the EB because I needed the 4k tow. I get around 30 on the highway with cruise set at 8 over speed limit. Around town I get 25-26 so quite happy even if not hybrid numbers. With the hybrid being cheaper and better mileage I think it might work best for you.

Get the Hybrid for mostly Highway driving. I have the EcoBoost and I’m averaging around 35-37 on Highway and 32-33 in town driving. I’m pleased with my results. The Hybrid will get you 10 additional mpg.
