Toyota hybrids run the a/c compressor slower when in eco mode. Haven't found anything that states Ford does so. That would be a true way to improve mpg (applicable to hybrids with electric compressors usually).
Toyota hybrids also have a driver or front seat priority selection for HVAC - saves energy by not heating/cooling empty seats. Likely hard to measure the difference, but using less energy heating/cooling a cabin definitely improves mpg.
