The AWD system only engages when required. At highway speeds on dry roads, there is no significant difference in the part of the drive train being used as the rear wheels don't engage.

Drivetrain includes the eCVT which in 2025 is an HF55 with two new electric motors.

I'd call the addition of AWD significant.

Final drive ratio a "small" but noteworthy change.

Gen 1 3.04 : 1
Gen 2 2.54 : 1
Gen 3 2.91 : 1
Gen 4 2.91 : 1
Gen 5 3.37 : 1

Betcha they all felt the same to the driver.

Two "new" motors is unconfirmed.
Someone with a ScanGauge in a 2025 could help us confirm.

You can adjust the math the dashboard computer uses. Look up AFE and engineering test mode.

I want to thank you for that. I looked up that thread, did the calculations and adjusted my FTE to 860. Displayed MPG now is quite close to the MPG I have been experiencing up to this point.

Drove my 2024 Hybrid maverick 200 miles today It has 950 miles on it now. Drove most of it at 80mph. I got a average of 34.8mpg.
Is this normal for a hybrid with under 1k miles?

Yes--- at that speed, and with less than 4K miles, you are lucky you did that well. All estimated mpg is taken after at least that number of miles.

I try to keep my freeway speed between 60-65 and average between 45-50 MPG. The hybrid gets it's economy by letting the battery do work, and at 80 it isn't working much.

I'm trying to learn more about hybrids. Are you saying that at 60-65 MPH the battery is doing the heavy lifting as opposed to the gas engine ? 45-50 MPG is outstanding.

I belive AWD is engaged all the time but the torque split varies according to conditions.
I remember back in the '70s we were looking at building AWD Capris. When the question about MPG came up the engineers explanation was "With two wheel drive you are draging along 2 dead wheels, if you drive those wheels you gain about 4% efficiency. However to do so you need a lot of stuff, gears, shafts etc and the will cost you about 6% effiency.So overall about 2% loss of MPG". Seems to still be the case, I've owned AWD and FWD Mazda CX-3s and the AWD consistently gets about 2% worse milage.

No, not exactly. What I learned from the thread below is to think of battery power as sort of "power coasting". You can't coast up a hill, but if you are on a level stretch, going downhill, or even slightly uphill, and you are going under 65, you can get the truck to go into electric mode on those stretches and it will "power coast" till the battery drops to around 32%. If you use something like Carscanner you can increase mileage by being aware of where in the charge range you are. If my battery charge is up (40% or better maybe) and I come to a slight raise I will stay on battery as long as I have charge. If the battery is below maybe 35% and I hit the rise I'll give it some gas to gain elevation and charge the battery back into coasting range. Read through the thread - I think it explains what you want to do if you are after increased MPG. I'm just finishing my 3rd tank of gas it will be the first time I join the 600 mile club.

I always love posts on MPG. People drive so differently and in locations the either stink for MPG, are great for MPG, something in between. Technique, learning how to maximize the efficiency of the vehicle you are in, and willingness to drive in a way that leverages that. But invariably there are people that think they can drive 70+MPH and then complain about the fuel economy not meeting the EPA numbers or worse. You have to slow down... If you are in a hurry just forget about MPG and just enjoy the drive. If you enjoy playing the MPG game like I do then you can get good economy in any vehicle. I am looking forward to playing the MPG game with the hybrid Mav.

I don’t totally disagree with just driving, but if I wasn’t interested in the mpg, I would have bought the ecoboost.
With that said, I’m having a blast with my hybrid, it has enough power for me and I go a crap load further on a tank of gas and I’m very happy with it!
