I'm puchasing after market wheels, which have the same bolt pattern 5x4.25 and offset but the center bore is 74.1 mm compared to the maverick which is 63.4 mm. I was told I needed hub rings to fill the gap because many aftermarket wheels are ment to fit vechicles with different size center bores. Has anyone dealt with this?

Get the rings that take up that space. Don’t go by the ppl who say the lugs hold it in place. That hub lip that rests on the wheel is there for a reason.

You are correct the hub lip bears most of the weight and centers the wheel. lugs will get it close, but not enough. Get the right rims or get the adapters.

The wheels I'm looking at have a hub bore of 63.5 vs stock at 63.4, do I need a 1mm hub ring? I'm not seeing them on Amazon at all.

Do you understand the difference is one tenth of a millimeter, meaning the material of a adaptor would be one half of one tenth of a millimeter?

In Freedom units, one half of one tenth of a millimeter is .0019 inch.
Likely not enough to be significant.

Haha, I think the original post was a difference of about a centimeter.

I would bet the production Tolerance on both is 63.0mm to 64.0mm if not greater

I’ve experienced this with other vehicles. I would recommend them. They make plastic and aluminum. I’d get aluminum. Also you can get them off of eBay for less than $10. You can run your vehicle without them but I wouldn’t especially if you hit a pothole or two. With conical lugs they aren’t needed as much but I’d still put them on there since they are so cheap.

Hub centric rings will center the wheel, but the friction between the brake rotor and wheel created by the tension in the wheel studs is what holds the wheel in place. The torque applied to the lug nut will create that tension. In addition the conical seat will self align the wheel when the lug nuts are torqued.

They are useful for alignment, but are not necessary for function.

No hub centric ring needed
