Good afternoon. I just purchased a Ford Maverick and have a couple of questions about a few of its default settings.

1) Is there a way to turn off the auto headlight feature? When my engine is running, I manually turn the headlamps knob to the "off" position. But, when starting the vehicle again at a later time, it defaults to the auto headlamp status at startup. Any way to override this?

2) The feature that shuts off the engine at a traffic light is on by default at startup. I have to shut it off at each startup. Any way to override this to keep it off until I decide I want to activate it?

3) Does the emergency break always set itself to "on" by default when the transmission is placed in park? And, if so, need I manually turn it off at each new startup before placing the transmission in drive or does it deactivate it by itself?

Thank you. I ever had a car that had so many computer operated options! It's crazy! I sincerely like this vehicle but there's so many computer activated options it makes me feel like a pilot performing a preflight checklist!

1) I think all you are turning off in the day time is the day time running lights and those are kind of important to me. If you have a 2024 and it is because you do not like the amber DRLs, they sell some fancy replacement LED bulbs that automatically switch from amber to white just for that situation. Otherwise, I think the only fix for this may be ForScan.

2) They sell this little dongle thing that you plug into your OBD port, it stays plugged in, and will remember the state of the A S S when you turn off the truck for when you turn it back on again.

3) For me, it only sets the parking brake when I park on a steep enough hill, and like Darryl said, put it in gear and tap the gas and it will shut off automatically.

Thank you all for your assistance in this matter. As strange as this sounds, I am happy to once again be driving a four cylinder. Better gas mileage and that turbo charger gives me the the acceleration when I need it. Overall, I am happy with this purchase. I just wish Ford offered a longer new car warranty period.

For #1, you can't really override the knob behavior in the way you're alluding to (at least to my knowledge, maybe it's a Forscan adjustable thing). But if you're referring to the daytime running lamps, then you can turn those off permanently in the instrument cluster menu. It'll be under Vehicle >> Lighting. This is also the case for the automatic high beams, you can turn those off permanently in the same area of the instrument cluster menu.

Compared to what other maker? If you are talking 5 year/60k miles of the Korean makers they need it. Owned one for 3 years and was glad to get rid of it.
You're not the first person I heard that from! I scratch my head when I hear the commercials for Hyundai offer 6/100,000 and free oil changes! I think: okay, what am I missing here?

Thanks. That's exactly what I did in the lighting menu. I thought that also covered the "auto lamp" feature on the headlight knob somehow. It may shut daytime running lamps but it will do nothing for "auto headlight" activation at startup. The guy who sold me the car stated "Ohhh yeah, you can't turn that auto headlight feature off because Ford does not want you driving at night with no lights." HUH?

The headlight question has been asked and answered in another thread entitled "turn headlights off." Thank you all. I guess "auto" everything is a new car, way of the future!

The parking brake only automatically sets when you shift to park on inclines.

To be clear, there are two different functions being talked about.

Daytime running lights (DRLs) are just the headlights, and come on whenever the engine is running. You can turn them off in the menu, as was mentioned earlier. They will stay off until you change that setting.

The headlight switch on the dash will always revert to "Auto," which will turn on the headlights, marker lights, and taillights without user intervention, when the sensor on the top of the dash sees that it is dark enough. Disabling that is more difficult, if it's even possible at all.

And why would you want to turn the auto lights off.

No clue... I think it's a great feature. But we do seem to have a large contingent of folks around here who "don't trust them newfangled machines..." 🤷‍♂️

On my Lariat Hybrid, whenever I press the stop button, the trans goes to park and the park brake is set. No hills in sight.
