Hope it’s ok to piggy back on your question. Instead of removing it is there a way to falsify the information that it sends ford?

I’d recommend holding out for more support for the maverick on Forscan. Yes “Forscan” not “Foreskin”. Perhaps possibly through using forscan one might be able to disable it if the module can be accessed through the program or potentially through a tuner? I’m sure with enough attention someone will figure it out!

Technically, yes there is. Realistically, not really.

The telematics module will be getting data from the various modules over CAN or (if Ford has implemented it) 100BaseT1 Ethernet. You could perform a man-in-the-middle attack and alter the data as it went to the telematics module.

Hopefully Ford is using encryption and signing for this connection. It was a rather expensive lesson for Chrysler/Fiat. This means you have to decrypt or re-sign the data, so you have to have access to the private keys.

It's much simpler to just pull the connector on the module, or pull the fuse.

I don't believe it has GPS, so the only data would be car statistics and the only location would cell triangulation. I could be wrong but I can't imagine them throwing in a GPS without listing it as a feature.

GPS modules are dirt cheap and there's already an antenna. What's more expensive is the mapping capability.

Hmmm Not so sure about that .......

Ford's Global VP/Marketing and Sales, Jim Farley, said something both sinister and obvious during a panel discussion about data privacy today at CES, the big electronics trade show in Las Vegas.
Because of the GPS units installed in Ford vehicles, Ford knows when many of its drivers are speeding, and where they are while they're doing it.

Check out the Ford corporate telematics website... I don't know how they'd glean that much data without a GPS unit.

So what is ford going to know that i went too see grandma. I know of a recent accident where a passenger died and the telemetry was used to define fault. Why would you not want to be protected. Anyways ensure before you do this it will not affect your insurance coverage.

It's under the center of the instrument panel, forward of the console. You have to remove both center console forward side trim panels to get access to it. You can disconnect it from just the pass side, though, if you're ok leaving the physical module installed, just disconnected.

Legal fault protection… and legal liability… double edged 🗡

do you have a diagram or picture of the exact location? idk if i’m misunderstanding but you are saying it’s under the middle console where the shifter is?
