You're implying there is a storage device, which is pretty unlikely that it stores more than a few points of data. There "may" be a buffer big enough to compensate for when the modem is trying to transmit data and runs into a hiccup and has to try again, but that buffer is probably pretty small, and probably doesn't keep stuff when the power is turned off.

Just a guess, but it doesn't make money sense for Ford to install the modem spy features AND storage feature AND a way to download via OBD.
(OBD is OLD and connected to the computer in a different way than was ever meant for downloading "black box" info...)
there is most definitely a storage device. black boxes have been present in vehicles for a very long time, but it required access to the vehicle to retrieve it. they would know gps location, speed at time of accident, throttle and possibly brake position, and in vehicles with adaptive cruise they even know steering angle.

telematics takes some of that data and sends it out via cellular or wifi.

It's also worth noting that no one's going to solve every part of this problem. For instance even with no telematics, there are more license plate readers in fixed locations, as well as attached to police cars. This is definitely a case of not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Disabling and mitigating as much as possible is really my aim here.

In regards to the first, Ford can and probably does offer financing and insurance based on many factors. Insurance companies in particular always market to 'good drivers' because that's who they want, but they don't necessarily need inside information to do that outreach.
I tend to disagree with that and in another thread, posted the Ford email with 40% discount; quote from the email:

You’re not a distracted, hard-braking, sitting-in-traffic stress ball behind the wheel...
How would Ford know that, if fuse #11 pulled? Well, the email actually answers that question; quote:

We then use your vehicle’s connected technology to take a one-time look at your driving for 4–6 months to determine your total discount.
The email in question was received 5 - 6 month after I've got the Maverick. Is that a coincidence? Not for me...

...Which leads me to the last part of what I find interesting. If these things are true, what benefit is it to pull fuse 11 if FordPass doesn't work, and then data is still going out?
That's a good question, that I've been asking myself too as of late. Unfortunately, I couldn't find an affirmative answer either ways.

Right, that "black box" capability likely only captures a few seconds of data. Not all the GPS tracking and driving habits the telemetrics captures continually.

Do you have a source or any kind of reference? Otherwise this is just speculation.

.and can even monitor conversations inside the cab. Ford stores and sells this information.
Why would there be a need for Ford to monitor conversations inside the cab? Do you have a source for this?

The EU has stricter regulations on privacy than the US. I wonder if Mavericks sold there have the same data collection capabilities.

So there is a mic inside the cabin? That would be news to all of us I think.

there absolutely is a microphone in all trucks. in sync3 it's tied to the integrated voice assistant, I am actually not sure if the base stereo (Ford Connected Audio) trucks have voice assistant or not but they definitely have a mic for bluetooth phone integration.

I very seriously doubt that audio is monitored. that would take a hell of a lot more data storage and transmission than the telemetry.

That was my point, are they using the phones mic for audio. Bluetooth is just used to tie the phone or other device to the system.

I just checked. Ford Connected Audio does not have a voice assistant which would lead me to think that it can't use the mic except through a bluetooth phone connection.

Sync3 definitely has a mic and definitely can operate without a phone connected. It can't do a lot of voice functions, but I suppose if I put on a large enough tinfoil hat, I might be concerned about it recording voice.

I love when one of these threads crop up. Nobody anywhere is going to watch you drive from your house, to your mom's house, to the grocery store, and back home again. You're not important enough to be a target for anything other than additional marketing materials.

Just personal speculation based on my knowledge of how IT works and reading about cars for 30yrs...

This post says they typically can store 15-120seconds
How long does a car’s black box store data? | Jerry (getjerry.com)
Added note for info: The Black box in cars initially appeared with the OBDII system on most cars starting around 1996. I don't know if it has changed much in the years since. The box itself was usually mounted under the passenger front seat at least early on.

Your ignorance is palpable. That's not the purpose of the data accumulation - to follow us around. Rather than try to disparage others it's usually best to just remain silent.

Ahh yes... the fine line between tin foil hat and "I'm not worried about it".

Ford Maverick Experience with disabling the "Telematics control unit module"? giphy

I agree... You are not that important... until you are...

It's amazing how fast life can change and collected data becomes weaponized. One connection to you can turn into your entire identity and "security" (which is VERY fragile btw). I also hope it never gets to that point, but some of us value what little privacy we have and it's not right that owning a new vehicle, or a new phone, etc etc makes us vulnerable. It's probably nothing to worry about, but we should indeed be given the choice and if you've ever tried to actually "opt out", you'd see just how much of a joke that rabbit hole actually is. So, it's like some are saying here: Either go fully off grid and hope they never decide to make you an enemy simply because of the land you live on, or enjoy your Maverick. I gave up the full on tin foil hat thinking when I bought my first can and the government decided to make me a felon for a piece of plastic...

Pull the fuse. It won't change much.

I just don't want the damn thing communicating unless I turn it on. Stop draining my battery. Off means off, no means no.
