I need to get into the knee space under the steering wheel to install a brake relay for my flat tow setup. Does anyone have directions to remove that panel? It would make it a whole lot easier to get to the brake light switch wire that is way high up under the dash.

Thanks

Did you ever figure out how to remove the kick panel?

I ended up removing the panel just below the steering wheel. It gives a bit more room to get to the brake relay. This YouTube video shows how
The brake relay is the light blue thing.

I have a picture of it in my last post on the thread Ready brute elite and Roadmaster tow plate

If you're a Ford dealer technician...you just break it off.

I removed the steering column cowl (see the video in this thread) and the knee airbag. It's held on by for 10mm bolts. I didn't disconnect the wiring, just set it aside. That gave me some more room but it is still tight in there. Those purple and white wires are so thin. I could not get enough leverage for the butt connectors so I ended up using spade connectors. Brake light still worked after I had finished. Phewww. Never want to do this again!

Hey Linda - thank you so much for posting this. I just got started putting flat tow components on my new Mav and ran into this problem. I really appreciate your documentation, links and photos - incredibly helpful!

Geez! I was afraid to remove the knee airbag. That switch is really hard to access!!
