Apologize if this is addressed elsewhere, I searched but didn't find anything relevant.

My driveway at home has a pretty good down slope to it, and it's a tight fit to avoid hitting the garden next to the garage. When I back in, I have to open the door a bit to get a good look down at the edge of the garden, and the electric parking brake automatically comes on and locks things up.

Is there a way to disable this "feature?"

(In this case, it's much safer to back in to the driveway then to back out into traffic.)

Thanks..

Auto brake?
or
Automatically shifting to park?

I just checked it out on MY23.
In reverse seat belt ON. Opened the drivers door. Did Not engage park.

In reverse. Seat belt OFF. Park immediately engaged when I open the drivers door.

Only thing I can think of is cracking open the door prior to putting it into reverse. That's how you get around the lockout.

The trans stays in reverse, but the EB comes on.

(I didn't mention in the first post that my foot is on the brake pedal as I'm backing down the driveway.)

Does the rear camera not give you a sufficient view?

Not really. I need to look down to the edge of the garden where it meets the driveway.

I've only had the Mav about 4 weeks, I suppose I'll get more confident backing it up to exactly where it needs to go over time.

Must be a 25MY thing.

I constantly in the summer open the driver's door backing up - with seat belt on.

Rear brake assist can be turned off in the options menu on the large screen. If you need to back up a steep hill, it will emergency brake thinking you might be backing into a wall or vehicle. Useful if someone pulls out behind you in a parking lot, annoying if you have an inclined driveway you back into.

I can back down a hill door open or closed.

I back up, stop, open door, shift back into reverse and Fagetaboutit.

But why ?
My back up camera works just fine and door open is asking for damage.

When backing up I frequently tilt the mirror down to get a good view of the ground and back tires. Could that help?
My Dad had a 2006 Kia Amanti that did just that when you engaged reverse. It was startling at first when I put the car in reverse to back it out of the garage and I looked over at the mirror and it was pointing at the rear wheel. Dad was not driving much by then so I would drive him around. He laughed and said, "It always does that..."

I had a Lexus that had auto tilting mirrors when in reverse. Very helpful! I back down a friend's steep drive all the time using the mirrors. I haven't driven over his sprinklers or lights, yet. I guess I have my mirrors low enough that I don't need to adjust them. I rarely use the camera, especially if it's a tight fit.

I have a 24 and often open the door to see around my snowmobile trailer when it backing off the street and into the garage. I know, why the hell you putting a trailer in a garage. Well, I live in a pine grove and I leave nothing outside more than a few minutes or I will find clumps of sap on it.
It always goes into park with seatbelt off. MOST of the time it does not when the seatbelt is on (though I do slip the belt off my sholder in order to hang out the door a little further. But on occasion it does go into park, not sure if is related to how much of the belt is out or not, but it still does go into park on some occasions. My neighbor told me to try the belt on trick as he found that he was able to back up with the door open on his several year old Ram truck.
