I am currently driving a 2007 Taurus SE with over 257K miles. I bought it used in 2011 with about 87K miles for about $7500 IIRC. It has been a decent, but not great car. Certainly a good value. Over the years I have replaced an alternator, starter, fuel pump, fuel filter, brake lines plus the more routine maintenance items like brake pads and rotors. It is still reliable (no engine or transmission issues), but is showing its age. It has had an EGR related CEL for years that doesn't seem to affect it. No emissions testing here, so I am just ignoring it. The handling is getting worse as it feels like the front end is soft and it wants to drift. It certainly has rust on all the wheel wells. The clearcoat is peeling in places as well. The leadlight assemblies are very cloudy and ought to be polished or replaced. It has unrepaired deer collision damage since I no longer carry comp or collision insurance on it. And just recently the AC clutch went out on it. I was able to bypass the AC pulley by using a shorter belt for $25 and some bruised and dirty hands. I will be sweating until my Maverick is delivered. I am not spending any more money on this car if I can helped it. Maybe one more oil change. Tires should last through this fall, but I would want to replace them if I kept it longer than that. The best thing about it is it starts every time and has been paid off for about 9 years. I had originally been hoping to keep this car for another 15 months until my mortgage is paid off, plus I didn't really know what I wanted to replace it with. COVID screwing up the marketplace made me want to keep it even more. But I decided last year I needed a contingency plan and ordered a Maverick (well 2 actually). I will be driving something else by the end of the year even if neither of my Mavericks get built.
I am sure others are waiting to replace something even worse. How rough is your current ride that you will be replacing with a Maverick??
