When I take delivery of my Maverick, I will either trade in my Subaru or sell it outright. Haven't decided yet. All I know is, I won't be paying annual taxes, tags, and insurance for two vehicles when I can only drive one. And I can only fit one in the garage. Not going to leave one out in the weather.
I will keep my 99 Ranger as long as it keeps running, and since it still has less than 100k miles on it, it’ll probably outlast me . I’m keeping it for hauling extra dirty/scratchy things, and there’s always one of my adult kids that needs to borrow a vehicle when theirs is broken down or insufficient for the task (they AREN’T using my Maverick lol).
My 2016 Golf GTI is my daily commuter and hooning around vehicle. Want to keep the miles somewhat low on the Maverick as I plan on keeping it for the long haul so it’s reserved for those Costco/Home Depot runs and the occasional road trips, or during really crappy winters.
Yes we had a ford escape on lease for 5 years then the lease came up so we gave the Escape back and bought the Maverick we wanted a Truck but nothing big just big enough to haul a few thing to the dump and from the lumber yard. This was a great choice.
Maverick is not our only vehicle, but wife and I shared a single vehicle (VW jetta) for ~5.5yrs. We both work and have two super busy kids, but our home is a 7min walk from my office (it's why we bought it) and now I work from home. We also live in a pretty walkable area, where most things we regularly go to are within a handful of miles. Not once in 5.5yrs did we "need" another car and with a 2nd car we still walk or bike often to the library, parks, the grocery store, sports practices, etc. We bought the Maverick simply because it would be an awesome family adventure vehicle and I didn't see many vehicles on the market capable of carrying 4 bikes and all our camping/outdoors equipment, getting excellent fuel efficiency, and costing <$25k - I had a feeling if we didn't order early, it would be a huge PITA to get one later.
We also have a pair of ridiculously overpowered fat tire e-bikes and I ride mine WAY more miles than I drive.
I commute 45 miles each way to work so I decided to keep my 2017 Focus as my work transportation. The Mav may be the last new vehicle I buy since I could have retired by now, and I want to keep the mileage down as best I can.
My retired S 10 is in my shop out back - thinking about rebuilding it and fixing it up like new - other than that my Maverick is my one and only mode of transpo .
My maverick won't be here for another month +, but no.. it won't be my only vehicle. I currently have a 2023 hyundai santa fe- which I am keeping as well.
Still all-in and Maverick only. Heck, I even have a driveway 2 cars wide and it just sits 1/2 empty. No RVs, no boats, no motorcycles, no ATVs, no utility trailers and no e-bikes. Hell, I don't even own a road bike. Best I can do is a fat bike with a trailer, one other mtn bike and an electric lawn mower.
Since I'm single, if your car count matches your driver count, I'd say you're all-in too.
