My Brother bought a purpose built bag, $200. He strapped it with the included straps to the four tie downs in his RWD F-150. Fill it with a hose and let it freeze, that matters not.
It covered the bed.
Full it was 4 inches thick and weighed 400 pounds.

He said it helped a little but not much.
After the first winter he sold it to a guy for
$200
:XD

I was going to start with 200lbs but I was wondering what you guys were going to be using?
The EXTRA benefit of keeping sandbags in the back is....

You have SAND in the back of your truck.

Actually get stuck on ice? You know sand under your wheels works wonders.

I'd put a bag of your choice over each wheel.

As they say, peace of mind is worth a lot. It's CHEAP. Amiright?

I have never needed sand or a shovel to get 'unstuck' in vehicle. Includes lots of miles in the mountains.

Do you see dry snow? It will not pack down and you fall through like quick sand. I got my Polaris snowmobile stuck one time & jump off to sink up to my armpits in the soft powder. It took me an hour to get back on the snowmobile.

Not armpit deep, but first time ever on a snowmobile I got quite stuck in thigh deep heavy snow, took probably 45 minutes of trying to get myself turned around before all the will of my body to move limbs gave out and I called a coworker to come help me, luckily right when I hung up the phone another snowmobile came around the corner and helped me get unstuck, and now we ride together most of the winter.

I got a new 2024 sled so hopefully this winter it'll be better, plus all the experience from riding 2 winters since those photos.

It's coming up on its 4th Minnesota winter and I haven't had any traction problems. Both FWD and AWD, no issues.

I love the pictures.
The top of the snow was a 2" hard pack with five feet of dry powder underneath. I had to lean forward & back to widen the hole in the snow, I had jumped into. I was alone after midnight when it happen. I only had moonlight to see what I was doing. I did pray for help.

A sort of primal fear awakens from the deep recesses in the back of the brain moving quickly up front and center when stranded out in the woods by yourself, at least it certainly did for me :cautious:
