It's not the elevation that's the challenge but the grades: 6% on the Grapevine I-5 and Cajon Pass. The Mav went up the Grapevine very smartly and held its speed on the return going down.

Wow! And very little snow for this time of year.
This was the summer of 2025.
There is more snow now, but not much

10,000+ going through the Bighorns last July.
SNOW.webp
I did Bighorn Canyon last summer.....and is close to the height of Beartooth Pass...11,500 feet and excellent paved roads. Have done Beartooth but critical to watch for snow even in the summer.

I do find keeping the Hybrid in Cruise Control at appropriate speed worked much better than braking. In cruise control engine continually downshifted to maintain speed.

Where I live the highest point of land is an eye-watering 150m (~492 feet!) above sea level and I've driven by there as close as the road goes.

Thankfully the maverick is fuel injected so I didn't have to rejet the carb...

Not much height in Texas-Louisiana areas. Not joking here, most likely highest is Mississippi River bridges over Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

I live at 6500 ft, get to 7000 no problem and then Albuquerque will take you to about 5000.
