Is there ANY chance that Ford would pull the build date and not make by the end of their model year builds. I would hate to get rid of my current one and that happens!!!
Don't sell to a flipper like Carvana. Sell private party on AutoTrader. But your profit will be taxed at your normal income tax rate.

Trading the Mav actually nets you more than the trade due to your income tax savings + your sales tax savings. So if the dealer gives you your out the door cost of $35k as a trade, you won't have to pay approx $3k in sales tax again. A $35k trade is worth more like $38k with sales tax savings. Plus this solves the problem of what if your other Mav does not end up being built. You only trade it in when the next is delivered.

FYI, LUX is really nice even on my XLT. There are actually 4 heated features that will make a big difference on a cold morning at your South Dakota home. Hopefuly my video helps you.

I understand trade in is separate from new sales in taxes for the new sale, 2 different transactions..
I don't know about California but in Texas the tax value of the new purchase is reduced by the trade in value of the owned vehicle. If the new tax value minus the trade in value is negative you should pay no tax on new purchase but probably will not get a tax refund for the difference. See what dealer will pay for trade and make decision. I think In some states if you sell existing and have proof sales tax was collected and turned in to your state within a set time period you can apply for refund of tax as if you traded it in. It's also possible your trade in value will be more or less than your new purchase tax amount. Good luck.
Same in FL. My dealer said they would match Carmax/Carvana/other offer.

you'd probably do better financially with independent transactions - dealers have ways of convoluting numbers on trade ins and you'd likely end up with less than you could have gotten selling it via Carvana etc.
This is exactly what my dealer(s) tried when I was selling my 2015 Honda Fit Ex after I got my build date for my 2022 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid. This was at the end of October 2021.

AutoNation Honda Lewisville TX:
1st offer: $10,000,
2nd offer after I stated 1st offer was a joke: $11,000
3rd offer texted after I left and let them know they were far away from a realistic value: $12,500

So in a span of 15 minutes their offer went up 25% but was still way too low

AutoNation Ford Frisco TX: $11,750

The above offers were complete jokes

Got offers of $15,483 from Vroom and $16,523 from Carvana.

I sold to Carvana effortlessly for the agreed price of $16,523.

Trade it in on your new vehicle. Will greatly reduce the sales tax on that purchase.
You will not save if the dealer low balls your trade in compared to what you can get from the online companies.

My real life example:

Best dealership offer I got was $12,500 on my 2015 Honda Fit Ex after I got my build date for my 2022 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid. This was at the end of October 2021.

I got offers of $15,483 from Vroom and $16,523 from Carvana.

I sold to Carvana effortlessly for the agreed price of $16,523.

Difference was $4,023 in my favor selling to Carvana instead of trading in.

If I traded it in at $12,500 all I would have saved on taxes is $750 (6% Texas Tax) so if I did the trade I would have lost $3,273 doing so.

PLUS in Texas at least ceramic tint for heat control. I think mine was windshield = none, front doors = 35%, all rear 20% pretty much appears equal from inside looking out 35% was Texas max. Was $200 at my dealer. Several days ago after hour in sun drove 34 miles home 95°F AC at 71°F on Auto (did not use max) got 43.4 mpg dash. Trip in that direction usually 5-7 dash mpg less. Was slippery cruise.

good for you! yeah a little legwork and investigation is a small price to pay for thousands of $ more in profit.

That’s an easy one, keep the one you ordered, that’s equipped the way YOU wanted, you will LOVE the extra features, as others have said, sell or trade in the one that doesn’t have the extra features and built to your specs. You’ll second guess and kick yourself later on if you don’t

What does Carvana require to generate a quote, possibly complete the sales transaction remotely? May be wanting to replace my Maverick with another truck in the near future. TIA

I've been in auto sales for about a decade, and was with Ford for 8 years. It is very possible they cancel and push your order back to a 2024. I would recommend holding what you have until your new one shows at the dealership and is inspected. You would be amazed how.many get canceled, pushed, and even get delivered to the dealership with damage.

State are different, so I’m only speaking for Missouri. Here you don’t necessarily have to “trade” a vehicle to reduce the sales tax on the new one. When I got my Maverick, I sold my old vehicle to Carvana. I had to submit that sales invoice to the state dept of revenue and was reimbursed the sales tax on that amount. You have a couple of months to do that after the new purchase and the sale. You need to check with your state taxation department. I’ll bet many others do the same thing.
I just checked the Texas Comptroller's web site, and found this page about trade-ins. The pertinent statement is this:
Motor vehicle tax cannot be reduced by the proceeds of a private-party sale or the sale to a different dealer of a motor vehicle that could have been used as a trade-in.
So at least in Texas, you can only get that "reduction" by trading in your old vehicle to the same party that sells you the new vehicle.

On the other hand, it also states:
There is no tax due when a purchaser trades in a motor vehicle of greater value on a motor vehicle of lesser value, commonly referred to as a trade-down.
So if they give you more for your trade-in than they charge you for the new one, you don't pay any sales tax here in Texas.

Just another of the ass backwards laws here in Texas where they screw the citizens and reward the corporations. In this case the dealerships.

dilemma

At least OP committed to the error and consistently misspelled it.
When I was doing some research as a younger man on technical writing (I had to write manuals to train operators on control changes made to machinery), I consulted an old book called 'Style of Writing' by Shrunk & White. It had a line in there I'll never forget:

"If you don't know how to pronounce a word, say it loud. There is no sense in compounding ignorance with inaudibility."

Our OP didn't know how to spell the word, so he shouted in a ALL CAPS. Shrunk & White would be proud.
