No build date, No build date, No build date. So I started inquiring to dealers who stated they had Hybrids for sale only to be told by each and everyone of them… oh sorry they are customer orders. One of those dealers contacted me 400 miles away and said that a customer bought a Ranger 3 months ago after hearing zippo from Ford and now it’s available. It was a 23 Lariat Area 51 Black out package. No Lux package.. So after thinking my White loaded Lariat pretty much everything but a sunroof is never going to get a build date and I’d have to go through this all over again I decided what the heck I’ll take it. So i drive the 400 miles it has 13 miles and absolutely Gorgeous! The Black interior, Black 18 inch wheels. That Area 51 really pops. And now the DELEMA. Last week, it’s taken me a week to calm down. I got a dang build Date. It’s a June build. I’ve never experienced a Hybrid before. Now I see what all the HYPE is about. These things are Awesome!! It now have 34 miles and I’m getting 51 mph. WoW. Love the black interior. I wish I could keep them both but…. The delema is I really want all the extra goodies so I’m thinking about letting the one I just picked up go. But I haven’t a clue how to go about it. I paid 2 Gs over sticker. My out the door price was $35270. Taxes and stuff. Sticker was $31,880. If anyone is looking for beautiful hybrid I know a guy :) if you want to chat my email is smarkley18@hotmail. Com. Or text me at 605-380-1962. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Trade it in on your new vehicle. Will greatly reduce the sales tax on that purchase.
I understand trade in is separate from new sales in taxes for the new sale, 2 different transactions..

Is there ANY chance that Ford would pull the build date and not make by the end of their model year builds. I would hate to get rid of my current one and that happens!!!

Just wait to sell it until your new truck arrives then.

Do the math. Get prices from Carvana, CarMax and and a dealer other than yours. Then get trade amount from your dealer. Calculate sales tax on trade difference. Then calculate tax with no trade. Then look at best offer. If not a couple grand more, then trade. Plus, your dealer will love having a Maverick he can mark up and sell

talk to your dealer, and ask for the OTD on your one ordered, including sales tax. Subtract sales tax, and use that number for a trade as a starting point.

If they go down no more than the cost of the lux package, its a win for you. If they start drooling at selling a low mileage one and will give you what you paid, free lux upgrade!

I would try that first, as it is the least hassle, and if you take care of it they won't care too much about the miles or anything else because they can send it to auction and make money, or just ADM the crap out of it and it will sell quickly.

I don't know about California but in Texas the tax value of the new purchase is reduced by the trade in value of the owned vehicle. If the new tax value minus the trade in value is negative you should pay no tax on new purchase but probably will not get a tax refund for the difference. See what dealer will pay for trade and make decision. I think In some states if you sell existing and have proof sales tax was collected and turned in to your state within a set time period you can apply for refund of tax as if you traded it in. It's also possible your trade in value will be more or less than your new purchase tax amount. Good luck.

State are different, so I’m only speaking for Missouri. Here you don’t necessarily have to ā€œtradeā€ a vehicle to reduce the sales tax on the new one. When I got my Maverick, I sold my old vehicle to Carvana. I had to submit that sales invoice to the state dept of revenue and was reimbursed the sales tax on that amount. You have a couple of months to do that after the new purchase and the sale. You need to check with your state taxation department. I’ll bet many others do the same thing.

you'd probably do better financially with independent transactions - dealers have ways of convoluting numbers on trade ins and you'd likely end up with less than you could have gotten selling it via Carvana etc.
