Has anybody here got their friggen heat exchanger CEL situation fixed yet? All I see is "parts are backordered and I've been driving with the CEL for months"...

As I'm part of the bandwagon, just want to see if anyone has actually gotten the parts to have it fixed and how the experience was. Is it a re-designed system or just a new "old design" replacement?

My CEL went on and off..... the part kept getting delayed and delayed. CEL has been off for a while....so I cancelled the part order. If it CEL for that issue returns next winter, I'll deal w/ it then!

UPDATE:
Heat exchanger part is in. Not sure how it's so fast on my end since I'm in Toronto, Canada and only been waiting about a month. Some ppl have been waiting half a year...I don't get how this supply chain gets allocated. Anyways, will keep y'all posted. Doing the Airbag recall and heat exchanger together (they better not mess up my headliner!)

CEL victim here... been driving a mustang loaner for a month now waiting for the heat exchanger part. Dropped off March 23. How could they design such a large complex part with such a cheap component... disappointed in Ford.

hey man, not sure why your truck needs to be sitting at the dealer if it's just related to the heat exchanger. It's perfectly driveable.

From my understanding, the exchanger is trying to regulate heat on the battery. And right now, this regulator (the valve to open/close) is unable to close... its not a traditional fail proof thermostat but a cheap plastic switch. So it would continue to heat the battery with exhaust gases, even when battery sensor says to close it. I disagree with decision to continue driving it in this condition. I'm not aware of a secondary redundancy protecting the battery temp.

I went in for an oil change yesterday and they said they could change my heat exchanger / exhaust at the same time as the part was in. I no longer have the CEL and confirmed it's changed.
Is the heat exchanger the same as the one they replaced, or is there a more robust heat exchanger out there?

The service rep wasn't sure yesterday when I asked him, but I was told at the time of the part order a few months ago, they're waiting on a new version of the heat exchanger assembly and could take awhile.

I wonder if there's a way I can tell looking at it.

Good points! But I would contest and question what position the valve is in when it's not in operation./broken. I'm assuming when the valve is not receiving any power, the valve is open which allows the exhaust to go straight out to the muffler and not routed through the exchanger. Therefore, no heat is actually going to the coolant lines to heat up the battery when the heat exchanger is not working....so the battery temp will just be whatever temperature it is outside.

here's my dealer's response to whether it's a new part or not...(it isn't)

"The exhaust heat exchanger we have for your vehicle is not an updated part. Yours failed due to an internal fault with the module. I believe the module has been updated as we have replaced multiple exhaust heat exchangers with no concerns still."

What does module mean in this scenario?

Most likely the electric motor for the valve, and the accompanying micro-controller.

Not to hijack this subject, but...

What's the logic in heating the battery? Especially, if you take it into account, that the battery won't be heated, if the engine isn't running. When the engine is running, there's enough ambient heat to keep the battery warm. Am you misunderstanding what is actually heated?

I never had an an issue in any of my previous vehicles, without heating the battery.

It's a hybrid's lithium-ion high-voltage battery. Li-Ion batteries work better when not cold. All hybrids and full electrics have systems to warm their HVB in cold weather. They also shouldn't get too hot. So, on Ford's latest full hybrids, there's a coolant loop to regulate their temperature.

The engine cycles even when parked and not otherwise needed with climate off so as to keep it warm enough to be ready to use, and to keep the coolant lines warm.

The exhaust heat exchanger exists to recapture some of the waste heat from the exhaust and use it to keep various components warm, instead of needing to run the engine more to heat them directly. The exchanger dumps heat back into (I believe only) the low temp coolant loop that warms the HVB and other electric components, not the engine.

Further, Maverick hybrid's 12V battery is actually in the cabin. Maverick is under the rear bench seat. Escape is in the cargo area in the spare tire well. Not in the engine bay.

Oops, my apologies for not noticing that this thread is about the hybrids. Thx @jsus for the explanation.

Of course the EcoBoost 2.0 has a different battery under the hood, that caused my misunderstanding:
