Is this your first vehicle with LEDs or HID headlights?

I've been quite vocal about certain things I don't like on the Maverick, but the lights have never been part of that. 🤷‍♂️

Are these headlights sealed? I’m not happy with the light output, is there anyway to upgrade the headlights?
Yes they are sealed, and they are not interchangeable bulbs either. If the factory headlights go, you have to replace the entire housing. Everything else, turn signals (front and rear), running lights, and rear lights are changeable bulbs.

The OP is asking about headlights. ;)

iihs headlight test rating was Acceptable. There is definitely room for improvement. 1) Reduce glare on low beams. 2) Improve high beam illumination on left side. 3) I would like to see upgrade to curve-adaptive headlights.

Low beams
  • On the straightaway, visibility was good on both sides of the road. On curves, visibility was good on the sharp right curve and fair on the gradual right and both left curves.
  • The low beams created some glare.

High beams
  • On the straightaway, visibility was good on the right side of the road and inadequate on the left side. On curves, visibility was fair in all 4 tests.
  • High-beam assist compensates for some limitations of this vehicle's low beams on the straightaway, on both left curves and on both right curves.

Unlikely to see those in an entry level model vehicle. The headlight units are already over $1k a pop, make them adaptive and that shoots up $2-3k per unit. People here freak out over $300-400 price jumps, just imagnine what they'll do if the price goes up $4k just due to the headlights!

Funny I do get flashed occasionally by other drivers when using low beams but i have never been impressed with how much they illuminate.. just OK in my view. Unfortunately the sealed design probably doesn't lend itself to upgrades as won't be enough interest to encourage costly development of any modest aftermarket improvement.

Consumer reports has a unusually harsh ssessment--below--of the low beams...

"...The low beams provide only “fair” levels of light straight ahead down the road. They don’t give enough light for the driver to adequately see, react, and brake for anything ahead when speeds reach about 60 mph. Sideward visibility was rated at “good,” which is lower than the levels of sideward visibility we typically see with better-performing LED headlights. Sideward visibility can help drivers see pedestrians and wildlife entering from the sides of the road, or in navigating corners.

In contrast, the high beams do a “very good” job of lighting the road ahead""

I agree with that review. The brights are decent. The low beams are disappointing

I found I needed to lower my headlights a little. My state of WI is terrible for road marking visibility. Blacktop is bad, wet blacktop is bad on steroids. To me it seems the beam is relatively flat and does not have much illumination relatively close to the front of the car. The adjustment for up and down is the only thing that can be done, there is no horizontal adjustment available. While I do not appreciate the random use of many so called factory fog lights, they may have a place on this vehicle. Of course they are not available.

Odd, these are the best headlights of any vehicle I've ever owned. For a super cheap vehicle Ford got the headlights right, to me at least.

burned once lasfit installed turn signal burned out after a few months
been told via this forum go with these:
https://www.diodedynamics.com/
whatever works i guess. those look like a pain since you have to install resistors yourself. i’ll hope to not have a problem with my Lasfits, but if so, they will do right by me hopefully.

Whatever bulbs you replace keep the original I kept the original front blinkers after installing the lasfits and good I did or else I would have had to hunt down replacement bulbs ASAP since the lasfits fizzled and waited for a warranty replacement
