Have you seen this uneven gap with the headlight assy

It has only 1600 miles as I have another older car. My 2024 Maverick hybrid will shake at 80 mph + miles so I made Ford buy it back! This has no issues so all good.

Except that cursed gap!!! It's like looking at the Grand Canyon!!!

When the buyer goes elsewhere instead of accepting shoddy, not related to costs, poor workmanship. If you are only interested in function, I guess you did not even walk around your Maverick for a visual inspection before you bought it????

I believe for as long as automobiles were made, body fit was a consideration in defining quality of manufacture and not necessarily correlated with price. This fit would bother me and I am far from being particular about most anything. My two cents!!

I didn't carry a micrometer with me.
Does the headlight gap affect its function or alignment? And why single out my post? The majority of feedback in this topic is that it's not worth worrying about.

It was not my intent to single out your post. However, it seemed to me, perhaps, wrongly that your post was the only one that mentioned because of low-cost that things like body fit should be overlooked or anything else not related to functioning of the product.
Low cost cannot be an excuse for shoddy workmanship IMHO. Peace!

You may be right, but I would hope not. I honestly think if I went to a Ford dealer, let's say Granger with 42 mavericks and they all had this kind of build, I would have to wonder: "If Ford accepted this what else did they accept that I am not seeing..........??"

OK. And I bet they would still have no problem selling those Mavericks to someone else.

Toyota may have great headlight fitment, but they also had an oil sludge problem that they had to be sued to do anything about remedying:

Likely which ever side is facing the sun will have a smaller gap. Just my opinion of why Ford wouldn't make it a 0.005" gap.

HaHa. The closest equivalent vehicle is the midsize Tacoma, which is drowning in recalls and issues. Nobody in their right mind would buy one today. Toyota quality issues make Ford look really good.

Your numbers are a bit hard to understand. You are comparing 78 thousands of an inch to five thousand of an inch like they are about the "same". .078 inches is over 15 times more than .005. inches. If the OP's gap is .078 with heat expansion, what will the gap be this winter when contraction occurs?. What is the gap on the one that fits before expansion. Probably about .070 inches less. The point is that with normal quality workmanship the gaps should be similar, and these are not even close to being the same. As an earlier post said, this gap also may be conducive to the lens fogging up on the inside.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I just happen to be a person who finds the poor fit in this case to be ugly. I really find it not much different than if I went to pick up my new Mav and there was small ding or scratch on a side panel. Maybe this is age related. I have been buying cars for what you may consider centuries! I have always looked at fit (integrity) of panels and hood when I bought a car/truck. Just a basic indication of normal quality. Being cheap does not have to mean low quality.
