I climb in with the tailgate closed, then open it if necessary. That way I can use the bumper step. At 70, my knees aren't what they once were. I'd get another Amp Research bed step in a heartbeat if it was available, though.

I'm surprised they haven't made one for it yet. I found a Bully hitch step at Goodwill and figured out it would fit in the side of my Tacoma's hitch and mounted it in there. Love it.

Good idea!
Crawling around is not good.

Thank you all for the great responses.
I knew this Maverick group would understand and come up with helpful ideas.

I can just step onto the open tailgate grabbing the stop of the bed rail, and I'm just over 6'2". I could see somebody shorter, or a few years older having some difficulty.

It is easier to simply sit on the tailgate, and swing our feet up roll onto you knees and your into the bed. It supports something like 500 lbs of static load in the fully open position. I have a 1 foot high folding platform (step stool) which can make it easier, that I use when apply polish. I can barely reach the center of the roof, unless I open the tonneau and climb into the bed, then lean over to apply sealant, wax, or whatever. - I should just leave it in the truck, and it would help those more vertically challenged to climb into the bed.

For those looking for something small and light to help, this is what I have: Folding Step Stool (Similar to what Last Truck Ever posted, as I just noticed his post)

Old guy here having a bad time climbing into the Maverick bed.
I Can buy a short tow hitch bumper step to get in when the tailgate is closed.
When open/down it will not work.
Thought about a two foot step stool to carry around but not thrilled with that idea.
Then saw the side rail step and thought maybe adding to one a center mount that would allow it to slide into the tow hitch and the length would just extend to the end of the tailgate length enough so with gate down I could step up and onto the gate.
Does anyone know of a product like this or have seen a product that could work?
Thanks for your help.
I went with weathertech step. Protection and convenience. A locking pin too.

A 'Stripper Pole' option similar to the F150 would be nice. I've used the ingress options from all the OEMs, the Stripper Pole is hands down the best and most secure...
