Has the OLM called for an oil change before 12 months/10k miles?

And would it be safe to say your average mpg is less than window sticker rating?

I have a feeling the OCI corresponds to your MPG. With lots of electric miles, my OCI will be longer. By nature and by design.

Does Ford recommend 10k for the EcoBoost? I thought it was 5k for EB.
Yeah, I average about 19 to 21 MPG per tank depending on if I take a longer trip on the freeway sometime within that tank. I do occasionally drive in to work or to visit relatives and that takes me on the freeway for 20 miles or so at freeway speeds. I also idle quite a bit since I park outside and use remote start to warm things up in the cold months of the year. It probably idles for an average of 5-10 minutes per day. And that is not counting any idle at stop lights, etc.....

From the manual.

When to Expect the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED Message

Normal
7,500–12,500 mi
(12,000–20,000 km)
Normal commuting with highway driving
No, or moderate, load or towing
Flat to moderately hilly roads
No extended idling

Severe
5,000–7,500 mi
(8,000–12,000 km)
Moderate to heavy load or towing
Mountainous or off-road conditions
Extended idling
Extended hot or cold operation

Extreme
3,000–5,000 mi
(5,000–8,000 km) Maximum load or towing
Extreme hot or cold operation

Extended engine idling

Thanks. I had seen that once or twice.

In my HYBRID my OCI was automatically cut in half while towing.
But how did it know?
My guess, it was since my MPG was cut in half.

The computerized reminder may be "change oil after 300 gallons burned".... so you'll get a 50% warning after 150 gallons burned. Check it out. See what you think.

This would also explain why really gentle drivers (with high MPG) are also getting reminders at 12,000 or 13,000 miles.

This seems like something we could test. Especially since I am about to change my oil.

I find it hilarious and ironic that actual fuel usage and MPG are two things that I don’t use the ScanGauges for. I do this all through Fuelly.

Because of this I could theoretically just not ever “fill up” on the SGIII and see how the OLM compares to the “Tank Fuel Used” metric through this next OCI.

I think you are probably pretty close when you say 300 gallons too…

Edit to add: I am curious to see the results of your Blackstone test. My speculation would be:
1. Viscosity at or near the top end. Still within spec though.
2. TBN, if you test, around 2
3. Everything else, including and most importantly wear metals, will be totally fine.

At 10,000 miles I am going to siphon out a sample and send to Blackstone Labs and leave the oil in until the report comes back. The oil change was done in October.

I'm 99% sure the used oil report will say the oil is OK for a bit longer. Unless Dealership gave me crappy oil. I asked for Ford house brand full synthetic.
By siphon you mean? For reliable results you are supposed to catch mid stream after about the first quart has poured. Just wait until your normal intervals and do it normally.

I actually brought this up with Blackstone. They claim it does not matter.

Sampling by siphon for testing at specific points during the OCI is common in aviation.

Hmmm? Maybe yours actually came with breakin oil? Or ? I am at almost 7k miles on this oil change and show remaining at 41% getting 41.3mpg with lead foot wife mostly driving usually in slippery with around 35% electric miles.
[/Q
What is "breakin oil? I wish I was getting a longer life of oil change as you have. But most of my
driving so far has been in the city, not much stop lights on the road but 3 miles drives.

I've got 1600 miles and Oil Life at 70% All around the area commuting trips about 15-30 minutes, no real highway. Check the oil every other week for any weirdness, but seems like these trips are taking care of any water in the oil and battery charging.

Will change on my schedule somewhere below 50, so it's planned with everything going on in life. May take it to my original dealer an hour away for the road trip and free ice cream and BBQ on weekends. Bring the entire family and I'll make money on the deal.
I need your dealer- lol. Mine just does popcorn and soda :)

Was joke on oil that some are rushing to change the original oil that comes in the ice from the factory in 600 to 1500 miles (like what was shipped in early days pre 1950's and was meant to wash the metal particles out and be a lighter weight to allow rings to seat before putting the regular oil in. I was implying that maybe Ford put oil in which they wanted changed in (5k?) miles. Who knows what is triggering your short term oil life. The sensors could be bad and could be indicating harsh use like heavy towing with ice at freezing temps. Some dealers like to change oil at 5k miles but they are not going to mess with Ford's algorithms, I assume. Ask your dealer to check system?

Oil monitors are very simple systems when have been around for a long long time, nothing wrong with it. More stop and go driving less oil life, more highway driving more oil life.

Does dealer charge check the system if the truck is still under warranty? Do they keep from doing an evaluation by saying it will cost $400 for a service exam?

Your dealer needs a reason to be able to charge the test to Ford. I understand the inconvenience but while you are in the 3/36 warranty period. Car doesn't start wherever it may be do not jump it and take it to Ford. Call and politely say that it won't start or whatever. Most dealers have a fast response tech. Some even have an extra large van but I think those are mainly for Lincoln, etc. yes the tech may jump start and ask for you to put charger on it or take it in. About the third time they have to come out to jumpstart a replacement battery might be found. Perhaps you will be justified as one who needs special attention from a Happy dealer. If you just ask for a test then most likely it will be chargeable. I personally use dealer for everything at least during the 3/36. (Call it Happy dealer insurance). I have not had dead 12v, no start. The easy way is to replace the battery with another different one of your own choice. $150-$400 might be cheap, just depends on how much you value your time.

Thanks for response. thank you for any insight you may give to the following senario.

Will the dealer pro rate battery cost if is has been used for 2 of it's 3 year life, once battery is deemed non chargeable by the tech? Therefore charge me for 1/3 of cost of a new battery?

Does the dealer charge for the evaluation of the battery?
Does the dealer charge for the installation of the battery?
If the dealer has determined I can pay 1/3 cost will they give me an option: A) pay for installation B) pay the 1/3 cost and take the battery and let me install it?
