Hi! Has anyone removed the plastic cap on the tailgate? Mine is already pretty beat up and I thought about removing it and spraying it with bed liner. Wanted to see if anyone else did anything to toughen this up.

No, it is just scrapped up due to being used. I’ll try to post one later. There are a few plastic rivets and probably some clips underneath.

I"m thinking this might be a warranty thing. Check with your dealer.

factory part on all trims. Just a plastic cap but isn’t up to much use.

I wish it was but all the scraps came from my use. Just looking for a way to beef it up.

Could replace it with a piece of butcher block or cutting board type material. Easy glide and durable.

You have a point. I wonder if any of the 3rd party vendors have something. If you haven't already, try RealTruck or another vendor who supports the Maverick. Have you checked to see what a OEM replacement costs? Can't be that expensive, can it? I hope I'm not that naive. But then you still have the same problem of it not holding up very well. I'll see what I can find.

Might be something here you can use:

Ha! That is a thought. Might rivet a strip of aluminum to it.

Looking into an OEM replacement now. I need to take it off to get the part number. Just looking around it looks like it might be about 80 bucks but I'm not sure i have the right part number.

That cap / spoiler helps with arrow dynamics of truck. Lots of wind tunnel testing by Ford. Just replace with same part don't bedliner it.

Yeah I myself would put a chunk of alloy on it, but that because I have a pile of thick smooth aluminum in my yard from a ATV bridge that got washed out in a flood a while back. I make projects left and right from that pile :ROFLMAO:.

As for the OEM part, I cant remember they member but someone on here wrecked their tailgate. Then made a temp one out plywood because they were waiting on the body shop to get ahold of that plastic cap on back order. If you can find that member, he might have the part numbers. I beleive it was an A51 and posted in Jan or Feb.

Forget the brand but check with the maker of the aluminum diamond plate bed cover to see if they have replacement for the plastic bed rail covers.
