Update:
I’ve been in the hospital for 2 days now. Expected to be for a total of 7 and then still a long recovery at home. That’s the best case scenario. It’s all I can do to keep my oxygen at the minimum levels.

don’t fuck around with this shit guys. I wish I would have got the vaccine. Knowing what I’m feeling Now it makes my old anti vaccine concerns feel stupid
Sending you healing thoughts.

Yesterday, @Rkbrumbelow made this claim about pets:

We love our dogs; I'm sure most people do. I am responding because I don't want people to fear, isolate from, or (in the worst case) dispose of their pets without solid evidence that that is the right thing to do.

When I questioned @Rkbrumbelow about the accuracy of this claim, he reinforced it by publicly posting that he would DM me with "prepublished data" -- presumably supporting his claim.

Now, @Rkbrumbelow and I have gone back and forth over this on DM (at his request). After reviewing the actual written sources he relies on, two things are clear, at least to me. His evidence actually shows that:

(1) There is as yet no proof that pet-to-human transmission is epidemiologically important, but it is being studied because caution is warranted.

(2) COVID-19 does appear in pets but is not known to be endemic.

I would have preferred for @Rkbrumbelow to correct this misimpression himself but, at this point, based on our DMs, it is clear that that will not happen.

I'm sorry about this. I just love dogs.

[NOTE: This is not the place for long scientific discussions and, even if it were, you would have no reason to listen to me. The best thing to do is look at the publications for yourself. If anyone wants to see the ones @Rkbrumbelow relied on (which are public), DM me and I will send the links. Likewise for the CDC link with its latest pet-related recommendations.]
We use precautions as if they are a human family member that is unable to be vaccinated. Get vaccinated, wear masks when out, & socially distance. Better safe than sorry.

Until you wrote, I had never heard of a COVID mask for a dog. But... I looked it up and there it was:

My 13 year old son has had it for a week. Fortunately the rest of us tested negative (wife and I are fully vaxxed, other child is too young to get it). Really kicking myself for not getting my son vaxxed. Fever broke 2 days ago but he's still got a nasty cough and sore throat. Poor guy all cooped up in his room till next week.

If people would use common sense you would see less people Vax'd last year but we wore mask and socially distanced and covid was tanking.

This year more are vax'd...No social distancing.. very little mask....What do you see...Rasing numbers.
USE Common sense...Wear a Mask in public.....Social distance....and wash hands often

I know some say the mask is bad and doesn't work.....But look at the numbers..

And I'm glad everyone pulled through...I had a Scare in march of 2020...but it was just a 24-hour bug...I got tested and was neg. But I confined myself in my office with a pull-out bed.
All of 2020 I took my work clothes off in the garage(I work in a Hospital) and put on my nightclothes... Wash hands before going into the house..I have a purell dispenser at the door..

My daughter has allergy issues and breathing problems...So we are extra careful.... She can't get the Vax because of this/

My n=1, I work in a medical facility that is owned by a mega-corp (not a physician, but PhD exercise physiologist who runs a metabolic health program - my boss is an infectious disease specialist physician). We've had ~1,700 employees on-site test positive to date, with only a handful of hospitalizations and zero deaths. We all (family of 4) had it last December and my wife (pre-symptomatically) spread it all around the neighborhood, to her sister (and her family), and her parents. Pretty much all of us shook it off in 24-72hrs with minimal (or no) lingering issues. At this point, a very significant percentage of people I know have had it, with the only adverse reaction being the 2-day hospitalization of a 38yr old friend (he was fine in a few weeks).

We've all got the double-whammy of innoculation (had it and got the stick). It's kind of hard to separate what I have seen in my personal and professional life and the end-of-the-world hysteria I see/hear everywhere else. I have to constantly remind myself that my little slice of the world is not necessarily representative of the entire country, let alone the planet.

Outside of age, Metabolic Syndrome is by far the most significant risk factor for adverse reaction to exposure. It's unfortunate that the importance of managing your weight, eating healthy, exercising, and getting outside and getting your vitamin D hasn't been among the major talking points by the major health organizations and the media.

Got in in march. The body aches were the worst of it for me. Couldnt taste or smell for 2 weeks. Worst part of it is, it fucked with my heart. Palpitations started the day I was diagnosed. Pretty steady for a couple weeks then tapered off. After my vaccine they started up again but not as frequent. Went to the cardiologist 2 weeks ago, they put a heart monitor on me. Took if off yesterday and will mail it in today.

Yes, exactly. I'm vaccinated, but I can still transmit it to someone else. And, I really don't want to be responsible for someone else's illness or even death.

It's like the 6 degrees of separation with this thing.

I have covid and I’m scared. Was hoping to just hear from people that have been there and one that for some encouragement 😬
Had it last December. Lost taste and smell, has slight fever, backache, light dry cough and for a couple of months EXTREME exhaustion. Took a while to get stamina back. Im 58, a tad overweight and went thru fine. Had my antibodies checked last week - still strong. Havent got the jab yet due to natural immunity. :) 99.9 percent of folks go thru covid fine. Take a crapload of Zinc, Vitamin C and B Complex - that really helped I think .

We lost one patient this year (2021) where I work as a nurse. She just died in the last 24 hours. However, she was very sick to begin with and would need oxygen prior to her onset of Covid. This latest 'Delta' variant is like a flamethrower in a lumber mill.

As for masks and there effectiveness, we typically have approx. 18 to 24 cases of influenza each year. Since Covid brought on more frequent wearing of masks and other PPE our cases (flu) have dropped to less than 6 during last year. Only sharing not open a debate of 'are masks effective', just that in some cases, such as this, it is measurable.

To whom it may concern I am back home. Spent 8 days in the hospital. Worst time of my life for sure. Thanks for those that have really helped me through this. I had some DMs come in that meant a lot and really helped me advocate for myself when I would have been lost
