Granger Extended Warranty

You asked for feedback...i have never bought one.....never needed one....been driving for 50 years.

I like Dave Ramsey and we followed the "baby steps' to become totally debt free and are, but in this day and age of computerized cars, I disagree with his stand on extended warranties. One module failure could easily cost more than the cost of an extended warranty and that is just for one module. So many things are interelated that several failed modules could equal 2 to 3 times the cost of a warranty. Also there have been a number of engine and transmission failures after the intitial manufacturer's warranty expires that could cost 5 - 10 times the cost of an extended warranty.

if you want an extended warranty, buy one. if you don’t, don’t.

Thats right, its your money. He doesn't say dont buy a car. He says buy used and pay cash. I buy new and pay cash.

You have some valid but sad points. Vehicles might not be as reliable as they used to be with added technology.

Keep in mind the Ford Protect “starts“ at day your new truck rolls off dealer’s lot. Your new truck already has 3 yrs factory warranty. So if you got a 5 yr plan, prob get 2 more years.

Anybody read the terms, see that too?

That's how extended warranties have always been. It's one of the reasons people warn against buying them.

The Ford extended warranty is the same plan available at most dealers, and Granger is one of those. They just happen to be a good low cost alternative, but if your dealer sells the same plan for less money, it would be a better buy.

As was noted, look at Granger's price and see if the dealer will beat it.
Unlikely, perhaps, but it doesn't hurt to comparison shop.

The purchase/or not decision makes sense or doesn't, largely based on an individual's risk tolerance and how the vehicle is intended to be used.

If the owner only keeps a vehicle for less than 3 years / 36K miles and only trades it in rather than doing a private party sale, there is no benefit to the extended warranty.

For those that drive a LOT, your manufacturer's warranty could expire in a year or even less, leaving you with only the powertrain warranty. With a 5 year loan, you could be on the hook for very expensive repairs while you are still paying off the truck.

For those who don't drive a lot, and plan on keeping the vehicle, the costs for a longer term warranty is only a couple of percent of the cost of the vehicle. Pretty cheap insurance.

There is also the fact that the owner doesn't have to save for, allocate or have to come up with a large unexpected repair payment.
That's not only the money, but the peace of mind that goes with it.

While true that while the factory is in effect, the difference is negligible, the warranty cost is highly unlikely to remain static, so the current warranty cost may be significantly higher several years from now.

Even if you never use the warranty, if you decide to sell the vehicle, the warranty can be transferred while in effect, essentially meaning you can sell what amounts to a certified pre-owned vehicle rather than a used car, and that makes a big price difference in the value of the vehicle, which could exceed the extended warranty cost.

If you don't use the extended warranty, you paid a premium, but you also paid for accident coverage that you may have not used either.
Was a high dollar uninsured motorist policy a waste of money?
Not if you are in a serious accident.
Looking only at premium cost is only part of the picture, and it's a myopic view IMHO.

As was noted, after 3 years or the mileage lapses, if just a headlight replacement on a Maverick is required, that's a GRAND or more plus install cost. I prefer $75 to cover them or anything else that isn't a maintenance part for 7 years with a $50 deductible on my plan.

Balance the cost vs. the benefits and make your own decision.

Just because someone never used their warranty and think it's a waste won't be around to help you pay thousands of dollars for an out of warranty repair.

As a hopeful future Maverick owner, this is a very helpful thread. I had an Endurance extended warranty for my Volvo due to the obscene electronics costs....and, they completely screwed me over and continue to spam me. It sounds like dealers respect and honor the Grainger warranties.

That's because Granger sells Ford factory backed warranties.

No. Not to9 late.
But if you wait till after the original factory warranty expires, they might consider the truck to be a “used” one, and prob force it to be inspected by a dealer, with report issued to them. Ask me how I know. I let the Ford Protect expired on my diesel F250, decided to reapply few months after the Protect expired.

My previous car, a Volvo V60 Cross Country, had an unlimited mileage bumper-to-bumper warranty that came with the car at no cost because it was certified used. It helped me even when I had over 100K miles. It lasted until my car turned 5 years old. Always get Volvos CPO!

The warranty I got for my truck is a Ford warranty.

I drive 35-40K miles per year. I sold my Volvo on C&B last month: a 2020 with 170K miles, 133K of which I added in 3.5 years. Unless life changes, I expect this Maverick to live a similar life and be traded by 125K miles.

I lived 50K-ish of my Volvo’s miles out of warranty and did fine!

The Granger warranty quotes don’t include extra add-ons, such as the light coverage and the key coverage. Dealer warranty markups also include these services.

This is the Granger quote I got for a 2026 Maverick Hybrid AWD living in Georgia. The light coverage (that’s what I’m calling it, but I can see if it’s on my paperwork) is a dealer cost of $100. My $100 deductible 5 Year/125,000 warranty was $1,970, and I paid it up front at the dealership. So, I technically saved on Granger’s cost by $25.

Come prepared with the Granger table for the spec and state you’re ordering in. That really helped me.

You bought a 2 year warranty. If you plan on keeping it, you may want to rethink this. The longer the warranty, the odds of a claim a greater. I bought a 10 year 100k with lighting on my 23 for less than $1900 from Granger. I guess the prices are going up due to all of the issues some if us have and claims. My 3/36 just ran out with 22k on it. If I don't use it at some point, I would be surprised.
