I guess the Mavericks do not have a proximity sensor? I have a base model with no proximity sensor just a key fob I can push the button on it or I can use the key to open the door I know there is an auto lock checkmark that you can choose as a default to do the autolock or not perhaps that’s what you need to look into?
Perhaps your EcoBoost is different.
My 23 hybrid XLT does not have auto lock.
It only has "auto unlock" as pictured.

FWIW = We got home last PM had stuff in back seat of lariat. Wife driving asked me to get stuff out of back seat as I had to get out prior to parking in garage due to shelves about 4" from mirror on passenger side. I got stuff including her purse which included her key fob, so I had both fobs. Wife pulls into garage and when she turned truck off got pop-up screen "Warning must have key to enter or restart truck".

I am guessing you have a Lariat, with push button start?

👍Exactly correct just as Ford stated in their technical service bulletin.
The folks that insisted the truck locks itself automatically.
But are unable to record it. Means, if it cannot be replicated by Ford service, it cannot be fixed.
I have exited my truck many times with leaving the keys in it and accidentally pushing the driver’s lock. Then I would have to go to the passenger side and unlock the driver’s door.

Ford blames it on operator error. I'll swear on a Bible that the truck WILL lock the doors on its own without driver input. It's rare, but has happened to me 3 times in 14 months of ownership. Recording it on your phone would be unlikely due to the infrequent and completely random nature of the occurrences.
Just happened to me also with my keys and phone in the truck. Fortunately the window was down.

I just discovered something. On the inside door latch handle that you open the door with, there is a small locking tab above it that you can push in. If it for some reason is pushed in when you open and then shut the door. The door will auto lock with the keys in the truck.

Well - that is the lock button, designed to fit in better with door than some obvious ones - and that is the likely issue for many of these reports since no manual says there is an auto-lock feature except when you start driving.
And why several reports say they go to any other door and it's still open.

Here is a video I made and posted in a similar thread.

Up to now no one has made an honest video of the auto locking phenomenon. Unless Ford can replicate or see a video, there's nothing to trouble shoot.
