Generally, I totally agree about keeping ones' eyes on the road, but I don't get the widespread aversion to the HVAC's AUTO setting. It seems to work well enough, even for knowing when to defog a little, and thus most of the HVAC controls are not "frequently used" for me. In nearly a year, all I've done is adjust the temp between around 66F and 72F depending on season, and it's not like I have to tweak the temperature two degrees URGENTLY, in the middle of an intersection. But everybody has their ways I guess.

Re: audio, there is still a physical volume knob and buttons for track forward/back on the dash, plus the same buttons on the steering wheel that the pre-refresh trucks have.

The volume knob is actually bigger and more "grippy" looking on the '25s.
I don't use Auto HVAC. I almost never want that thing blasting on high. Manual, on low all the time unless it's an emergency. And I can always see how things are set up at a glance.

Doing stuff on a touch screen takes longer which means the driver is distracted longer.

Sounds like a driver issue not willing to use the auto. Plus if its always on low you already know the fan speed and don't need to adjust.

What I gathered from this thread is that there are a bunch of dangerously distracted drivers fiddling with the HVAC physical knobs and buttons consistently when driving down the road.

To be fair, I am far from an AUTO-setting evangelist. I couldn't care less how other folks use their climate control.

But yes, if the system on AUTO doesn't need to blast, it doesn't blast. There is also the lowest AUTO fan setting which is pretty minimal anyway IMHO.

The one caveat I have mentioned before is that at highway speeds, I get a blast of air regardless of fan/temp setting. I believe it is a pseudo-"ram air" effect where the high pressure at the front of the truck or cowl is bleeding through the system. Never really confirmed if it was a fault or just lazy design. I love fresh air (and don't fiddle with the HVAC too much lol) so I just point the vent(s) somewhere else and keep on trucking. :sunglasses:

Meh. You justify things however you like. I'm not trying to convince myself I'm happy with something that is demonstrably worse.

Interesting post brother ! And I feel lucky,
I got a 2024 and think exactly like you about the, "2025 Maverick's HVAC/Radio controls."

When I fire up my Maverick I sit there a minute and, Touch Screen's.
Ha ! Sounds odd to even say it right ?
But My pre-flight is most likely very different than 99% of the Maverick Drivers.
I'd even bet I'm a one of a kind. Zah!

I touch screens till I get my fix then a minute later with my engine purring and settled I turn the center screen OFF. I wear a watch so I don't even need it to tell time.
I turn off that awful Start/Stop, I don't live in a city, Still I hate the thing. then I growl at Big Blue for not letting my settings stick, Permanently ! Grrrrrrrr
Then I start to drive off with my seat belt ON and I got to hit another OK button on the steering wheel, REALLY !
Then I drive off and fall right back In love with this little truck.

Beautiful truck; best of luck!

I loved my 2012 Subaru Legacy auto temperature control. It had 2 modes: "Auto" and "Full Auto" - the latter adjusted speed and direction of air flow as well.

Didn't Patrick Henry say that, "give me buttons, or give me death."
I am pretty sure that was his lesser-known stepbrother Jethro.

Hold up. The new screen looks cheap and dated? But the 8" w/cubby and less brightness than an Ohio winter day doesn't? LOL.
No right now. But in 5-8 years that silly screen in 25’s will look dated because technology will change. Buttons won’t look as dated.

The buttons in the 22-24 Mavericks already look like they are from the 2010s....because they are.

Doesn't carry weight.

And the 2000s one doesn't. 😁

Let's revisit this in 5 years. I bet there will be no going back to the excessive number of mechanical controls, but we'll see. Progress cannot be stopped, it's our choice to learn and adapt, or to cling to the past. There is no going back to manual transmissions, or to film cameras, or to "dumb" phones. Car tech is not conceptually different.
I’m not sure if I or the public agrees with you. People tend to like simplicity in their vehicles. The screen dashboard is simply a cop out by manufacturers who live a bubble. Why are used cars 90s-2000 prices rock sold? Because the peak of automotive engineering/drivability/repairability was the 90s-2005.

LOL are you really arguing a vehicle from the 90s is safer than a vehicle in the 2020s?

I am nostalgic as the rest but anyone thinking that the 90s are the halcyon of automotive greatness is high as f*ck and I want what they are smoking.
