I am so averse to the 2025 Maverick's HVAC/Radio controls, that I am seriously looking at the Chevy Colorado, and Toyota Tacoma: both of which have a touchscreen, and proper knobs/switches.

This is silly: the EU is laboring to move manufacturers away from touchscreens, because they believe that screen operation distracts drivers - much in the same way that phones do. Apparently many manufacturers agree, so they're getting back to incorporating knobs/switches with their screens.

And what does Ford do? The opposite.

I got a 2024 and think exactly like you about the, "2025 Maverick's HVAC/Radio controls."

When I fire up my Maverick I sit there a minute and, Touch Screen's.
Ha ! Sounds odd to even say it right ?
But My pre-flight is most likely very different than 99% of the Maverick Drivers.
I'd even bet I'm a one of a kind. Zah!

I touch screens till I get my fix then a minute later with my engine purring and settled I turn the center screen OFF. I wear a watch so I don't even need it to tell time.
I turn off that awful Start/Stop, I don't live in a city, Still I hate the thing. then I growl at Big Blue for not letting my settings stick, Permanently ! Grrrrrrrr
Then I start to drive off with my seat belt ON and I got to hit another OK button on the steering wheel, REALLY !
Then I drive off and fall right back In love with this little truck.

I can't believe this thread has people that don't mind not having buttons!!! touch screen is fine for not important and not frequently used controls. but HVAC and at least power/volume for the sound system needs to be top level and easy to get to without looking much or at all. if my windshield is fogging up and I need to mess with the defrost setting quickly I don't want to be messing with a touch screen that has zero physical feedback and in the case of our mavericks, seems kind of slow to respond.

ETA: I also often wear leather gloves this time of year because I have an XL and it's cold AF outside. the touch screen is really unreliable with gloves on. if I push hard I have about a 50% success rate.

Yeah that is the the trouble with modern vehicles. If you want physical buttons for everything it is just not practical because of all the modern features.

I know a lot of members on here have an aversion to touch screen controls in their vehicle but honestly I don't find it all that bad. I own a Mach-E which has way more screen controls than the Maverick and it isn't bad at all.

I think there's a spot to meet in the middle on that. I've got a Tesla Model 3. I have the emergency flasher button (required by law to be a physical button), a button on each side of my steering wheel (that are programmable for some of what they do) a stalk (gone away on the newer models) and my windows in the door.

That's it. The screen is somewhat modifiable so I can get a few things up there I want and the voice control is really solid which helps. I can call out to adjust right mirror or start the wipers and that pops up on the screen and use my steering wheel button to adjust those for example.

But I like having some physical A/C buttons. Rather than open the HVAC tab, click on rear, then click on the button to turn on the rear air. I kind of miss having a physical wiper button with a physical intermittent adjustment.

Yes, I have a cell phone and am pretty good at that but looking down to use it while driving is something I don't do well. My old one 10 years ago with physical buttons I could find the "answer" button or the "hangup" button just by touch without looking down at all. I don't need to look down to turn up the volume with a knob or turn up the temp a couple degrees.

I get the discussion from both sides, I like the way the infotainment system is in 25MY but I also have parents in their 70’s they didn’t grow up with all the technology, they would struggle to master the touch screen controls. On the other hand I think the voice commands would work for them and wouldn’t be to complicated to learn.

People who struggle with tech are just another layer of difficulty. I make tech products for people that need to operate under stressful situations where looking down at a touchscreen might mean someone dies. You can't readily operate a touchscreen without looking at it. These touchscreens are worse than smart phones by a long shot both in ease of hitting what you want and response time. Plus there is no haptic feedback. Things that can't wait or that are used a lot deserve a physical button. Things like programming your favorite radio stations can be buried in a menu on the touchscreen.

I mean if you learn voice commands it’s hands free, I get what you are saying but there are ways around using the touch screen. But I’d also like to add pushing buttons can be just as distracting if you aren’t familiar with the lay out. So I think the important thing about all of this is becoming familiar with your vehicles controls and if you aren’t you should avoid the unnecessary distractions of learning while you are on the road.

Honest question -- if Ford offered a "Buttons and Knobs" package for $1,100 or so, would you buy it? Or would you prefer that the Maverick price stays low?

Generally, I totally agree about keeping ones' eyes on the road, but I don't get the widespread aversion to the HVAC's AUTO setting. It seems to work well enough, even for knowing when to defog a little, and thus most of the HVAC controls are not "frequently used" for me. In nearly a year, all I've done is adjust the temp between around 66F and 72F depending on season, and it's not like I have to tweak the temperature two degrees URGENTLY, in the middle of an intersection. But everybody has their ways I guess.

Re: audio, there is still a physical volume knob and buttons for track forward/back on the dash, plus the same buttons on the steering wheel that the pre-refresh trucks have.

The volume knob is actually bigger and more "grippy" looking on the '25s.

I am just actually shocked as I never knew drivers were going down the road constantly fiddling with the buttons and knobs on their HVAC. I mean truly.

I've been driving for 25 years now and before auto climate control I would turn on my AC or heat before putting my vehicle in gear and leaving. Then when it reached the desired temperature at the next stop I would adjust down fan speed or temperature control.

Now with auto climate control I set the temperature and it is just done.

Again - I'm just blown away by the number of you who apparently are fiddling with your controls all the time instead of having your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. You guys are seriously dangerous.

I do the same run it at a higher rate til it’s desired temp then tone it down once it gets where a want it. Radio is pretty much background noise so I rarely adjust that either but I can control my radio and temp from the steering wheel on my current vehicle lol

Using Forscan and Mymavmode module I can finally start my 23 Mav XLT hybrid and start driving without having to press anything! Love it!

On the Mymavmode module I used a Positap T tap. Eliminated seat belt minder using Forscan.

Not a big deal but I was just tired of having to do 6 buttons to start driving in Eco mode

The other 2 fuse taps are for my Garmin mini dash cam. Fuse 6 for the Mymavmode module is a PITA! It didn't help that it was a muggy 91 degree day!

When you drive the 25—if you own a 22-24 Mav— you will immediately notice and miss the buttons. And the terrible instrument cluster design. They have an amazing LED pallet to work with. The design, for any GUI designer, is juvenile from an aesthetic point of view and they stripped out functionality to boot. They could have looked at Rover instrument panels which are beautiful and emulate instruments, whose designs have evolved and been improved for decades, yet still largely retain the same aestetics.

Sorry—as an owner of 22-23-24 Hybrid Mavs, the 2025 update is a perfect example of “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”

I had a 23 and now own a 25 and don't necessarily miss the buttons; and I thought I would have before picking up the 25. For the few times I want to change temperature, the voice commands work well if I don't want to take my eyes off the road.
